From his window he could watch the blue orb of planet earth getting smaller and smaller. Looming in front of him in all its detail was a giant moon. Astronaut Frank Borman of Apollo 8 was filled with emotion, as he drew closer and closer to the fulfillment of one of man's greatest dreams of landing on the moon. As the lunar module orbited, the crew could perceive the moon in its pristine state, untouched by human hands, exactly as it left the hands of its Creator. (One could imagine Adam opening his eyes for the first time and viewing a pristine Earth with the same awe.)

Borman wanted to convey this feeling to everyone glued to their TVs and radios, just so they could in some sense share the experience of this milestone in history. What text could express this feeling? What human poet or author could capture in words that awesome feeling of the smallness of man and the vastness of the universe? Only God's Word!

To the ears of billions of earthlings, Borman declared, "In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth!" The first chapter of Genesis was read on that historical day to all mankind.
(In contrast to the Cosmonauts who orbited the Earth in Sputnik and proclaimed, "We went to Heaven and didn't find God!") This is the beginning of the story of man and his world.

1) "In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth" (Genesis 1:1). What a contrast between the vast endless heaven containing countless stars, and one tiny speck in the universe called Planet Earth! Yet the following verse begins, "And the Earth was.........." and the rest of the book focuses on Earth.......... Conclusion: God is interested in Earth!

(2) The six days of creation are described in detail. The trees and grass, the animals, fish, birds, and insects. Then was created one human. What a contrast between the vast expanse of planet Earth, and one individual person! Yet from this point on, the bible focuses exclusively on humans (and NOT on the trees or insects)............ Conclusion: God is interested in humanity!

(3) After expounding upon the first human, the bible lists 10 generations with no events recorded. These generations evidently did not interest the author and are only included for the purpose of chronology. Finally we find the passage, "and Noah was a righteous man" (Genesis 6:9), followed by an entire section concerning Noah. ........Conclusion: God is interested in "righteous people"!

(4) This is followed again by a list of names for chronological purposes. Another 10 generations go by, until we come to Abraham our Father. Abraham is 75 years old at the time the Lord speaks of him. From this point on, the scripture records exclusively the story of Abraham's life and then that of his descendents - right up until the emergence of the Jewish people. The rest of the bible recounts God's relationship with the Jewish people. ...........Conclusion: God is interested in the Jewish people who undertake a unique mission, to be a "light unto the nations," to teach the world about spirituality and our Creator.

Much has been written about the apparent contradiction between the age of the universe, generally accepted by scientists as 15 billion years, and the Jewish tradition of under 6,000 years.

A simple solution which may dispel much confusion: If one accepts the creation of man conceptually, this assumes that the first person was created as an adult, because an infant or child could never survive on his own. It also assumes that trees in full bloom with luscious fruit were available for that first person to eat. Does this contradict the apparent age of the world?

Had a dentist examined Adam's teeth, he would have assumed him to be 30 years old. Had Adam chopped down a tree, he would have counted the rings and proclaimed the tree 100 years old. Had a scientist performed a carbon-14 test, he would have observed a very old universe because God created it in that advanced form.

Conclusion: Conceptually there is no contradiction between scientific calculations and the belief that God created the Universe in full bloom!

No one has made an objection to my suggestion that Adam was an adult, maybe in his thirties when God created him. I have come across objections to this thought in the past. Such as......

"If it is true, then the universe is unknowable because observations cannot be trusted. If it is untrue, then we may fulfill God's command to subdue the world".

In the 2nd chapter of the gospel of John, Jesus was attending a wedding. Running out of wine, Jesus instructed large water pots to be filled with water, and then taken in to the wedding banquet.

Drinking from these water pots the guest's commented that this wine was superior.......................Grapes?? Vintage?? Year??

Here is the God of Creation, and He cannot be enclosed within human reasoning.

Your thoughts......

Stephan one simple question,

Death?

God doesn't lie, that is true. What then is a dinosaur bone if there is not a difference between Science view point and that of the Scripture.

Certainly our understanding of the heavens might be wrong the start of the stars could be quite different to sciences imaginings after all they (theoretical physicists) ain't allowed to interject breaks in the 'natural' laws.

But the explanation of the fossil record etc... requires us to see that Science can't be ignored else it will undermine our faith in the word and the integrity of our thinking. Have a glance at Hebrews or Colossians 3 see how many times we are to fix our minds of God or Christ, what is finding other explanations for the start of the world than that in scripture but disobeying the word?

I know a lot of this stuff but until I stopped learning it and started criticising it, it was a hindrance and a burden to me. Don't try to fool yourself Science is the wisdom of man and the foolishness of God, trying to appear wise you will make yourself a fool and reduce your ability to trust and serve Him.

Grace and Peace

Without the studies of science, our lives today would probably be much different. We would probably not enjoy all the modern convenances we have today.

Websters Dictionary says; "science is the systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation"

But inorder to know God and the things of God we must come to know Jesus through experience(relationship).

Paul said " knowledge puffs up but love edifies"(1Corithians 8:1), and God is love.

I think Stephen already answered that in his 1st post.

And is his 2nd post.

If we assume that wine must be aged, and or that it takes time to ferment, then he created wine that was already old. It existed for only moments, but was already aged.

The main point that Stephen is making is that if you believe in the wine, and that God created grown plants (and not just seeds), and a grown adult male (Adam), then couldn't you also believe that God created an Earth that(by all human understanding) is already old? Like 15million years old?

If He is capable of this, and we know he is, then is he not capable of placing fossils in the crust of the earth?

I hope I helped clarify this thread a little, and stephen, if I mis-quoted you, or misunderstood anything you were trying to say, please let me know.

As I read the scriptures, which to me are the highest authority, the points mentioned in the OP teach us something about the God of creation.

Most people are aware that a Swiss made Rolex watch, is a masterpiece of pricision engineering. The planet earth is also precision made.

I am not a scientist but an interesting site answering many questions about the findings of bones and teeth from ages past is.....

Stephen pm the link, would be interested to have a look.

I still think you are trying to have your cake and eat it too. I have not found a way to be a bible believing Christian and accept all of Science.

Science denies the supernatural in any shape or form, a deist or a Theist can't accept a complete Scientific world view let alone a Christian. The only world view based and completely in line with Science is that of Atheist. As this assumes as Scientific thought does that ever thing is the result of natural processes over time and that the world is completely material comprised of nothing but matter and Energy which we can see, feel, touch, taste or hear.

Sure compromise is possible and a lot of people do but I would rather bend Science than bend the WORD after all Science changes the WORD doesn't

I am most surprised that people, scientist's in particular, reason away the Creation of the World. I find it easier to believe the bible story than believe in millions, and millions, and millions............."" of years. Having listened to learned men,(scientist's) speaking about such, I always seem to come away with the impression that I have been listening to men.
It is hard for me to believe, that once I was a tadpole beginning to begin, then I became a full grown toad, with my tail tucked in. Then I was a monkey up a banyan tree, now I am a professor with a PHD. Lump of slime, full grown toad, monkey to a man.
Glory be to nothing for such a planless plan.
The man said "I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my grain and my goods. I will say to myself, you have plenty of goods............But God said This night..........Luke 12:18-20
The bible says that "a mans breath is in his nostrills"
Scientist's???????? There have been occasions when I think the scientist's brains are in their boots.
