At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. John 16:23-24 NLT
When Jesus came to earth, He brought with Him a message of change. From that time forward, the way people receive God’s forgiveness, the way they have fellowship with their Creator, the way they worship Him…all of that would change. Even the way people pray would change.
You’ve no doubt heard people (ministers and laypeople alike) end prayers with the words “In Jesus’ name, amen!” Today’s scripture passage shows us that this isn’t just a nice-sounding platitude. These words mean something very important and very powerful.
Jesus told His followers that when they prayed using His name, they would receive what they asked for. That is because of the world-changing work He did when He died on the cross and then was raised from the dead three days later. From that time forward, they had full access to God the Father through Jesus.
So do you!
When you pray, remember whose you are—and then make your requests in His powerful, wonderful name.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord for the amazing privilege of receiving what I need when I simply ask You in Jesus’ name. May my requests always honor You.
