And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled (Colossians 1:21)

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. (Titus 1:15)

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:11)

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:4)

For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: (Romans 12:4)

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (Ephesians 4:4)

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (1 Peter 4:10)

Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28)

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. (Hebrews 6:10)

Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; (Philemon 1:5)

We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. (1 John 3:14)

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. (1 John 2:9)

They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. (Psalms 82:5)

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13)

Greetings, I am new to this site. You make some good points. However I want to query the following :

The Lord commands us to support our local Church financially by giving it 10% of our income. This is known as ’tithing’ and is commanded in both the Old and New Testaments:

"And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD." (Leviticus 27:32 KJV)

"And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's..." (Mark 12:17 KJV)

You use these verses to assume that we are forced by some obligation to give 10% of our salaries to a church, otherwise we are breaking God's commandments ? The verse about Caesar is simply referring to the fact that we all have to pay tax. If you could show me a verse in the new testament that explicitly commands us to give a tithe to a church, then please can I see it.

You must remember, there are many false churches out there. I am not just going to give tithe to a church if I can see that the pastor is using it to create luxuries for himself/herself.

It is however obvious that it pleases God to give money to the church, so long as it's not out of compulsion, for God likes a cheerful giver.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards Quantum. If that verse is indeed only about paying taxes, Jesus would have omitted the instruction to render to God what's His.

Just as it works with salvation, the Lord forces you to do nothing. Your salary, and everything else, is already His (1 Corinthians 10:26), you've simply been blessed to make it and are offering Him back ten percent. My question is: Why would you not want to?

Here's today's offering...

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:11)
