Idiomatic Believing?
The word, “Idiomatic” means, “relating to, or conforming to an idiom. Something peculiar to a particular group, individual, or style”
Idiomatic believing is having a strong belief in something that someone has said because we have an emotional attachment to them. It is very hard to disbelieve once we have this attachment. It deals with the mind in man where all of mans five physical senses are connected. We are more willing to believe in what a person says if we are emotionally attached to them. Maybe, it could be your favorite spiritual teacher, pastor or anyone in the ministry or just someone you have known for a long time that you like a lot. Faith does not carry any emotional attachment because faith does not come from or reside in the human mind as it resides in the “heart” of man.
Jesus said that it is with the “heart” that man understands spiritual things (Matt 15:13). Paul said it was with the “heart” that man “believes”. (Romans 10:10)
I grew up listening to a lot of “faith” movement teachers, and because I liked them I was more willing to believe everything they taught. This is not a good thing to have because man is fallible, and no man has perfect doctrine no matter how much we like them.
To be able to grow spiritually we must understand that learning new things by the Spirit of God requires us to be willing to let go of certain things that we thought were true when the Lord reveals to us they are not.
Any emotional attachment that remains in place because of certain people we like will stop one from growing spiritually in Christ. We never want to find our self ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.(2 Tim 3:7) All teaching comes by God the Father which he confirms by his Word, and the Holy Spirit bearing witness to that truth.
Knowing what the Bible says is not enough to grow spiritually, it requires us to “understand” what we know. Understanding scripture is what is called “Wisdom”.
Pro 14:33 WISDOM RESTETH IN THE HEART OF HIM THAT HATH UNDERSTANDING: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
Wisdom is what proceeds out of the mouth of God.
Pro 2:6 For THE LORD GIVETH WISDOM: OUT OF HIS MOUTH COMETH KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
Every single born again believer is building upon the “foundation” that the Apostle Paul laid which he received from Jesus Christ.
1Co 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I HAVE LAID THE FOUNDATION AND ANOTHER BUILDETH THEREON. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
The house in which we are living within, that each of us has built upon that foundation, is related to the belief system that we have chosen. No no can experience the Kingdom of God beyond what they have built.
The Bible warns us to “take heed how he builds”
1 Cor 3:10 ….......let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
Unless the Lord builds the house we labor in vain.
Psa 127:1 EXCEPT THE LORD BUILD THE HOUSE, THEY LABOUR IN VAIN THAT BUILD IT: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
