People may cover their hatred with pleasant words, but they're deceiving you. They pretend to be kind, but don't believe them. Their hearts are full of many evils. While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public. Proverbs 26:24-26 NLT
Standing unshaken means turning your back on hypocrisy. You come to God as a hypocrite, but then He works to remove the hypocrisy. God doesn’t want you to put a mask on hatred when hatred exists. He doesn’t want His family to just appear kind when their preference is really rudeness. Looking like God does not require a degree in acting.
In your interactions with others, you may be tempted to give a godly-sounding response if it benefits you—even when you don’t really believe what you’re saying. But such a response is deceptive.
Hypocrisy is dangerous because while you say one thing, people will detect something else in you—and they may even call you out for your dishonesty.
God has given you a soul and He’s given you a story. Share the real you and allow that unique story to mean more than any story you wish were true about you.
Prayer: Father, I was honest when I said I needed rescue, but it can be easy to think I need to brag about how faithful and trustworthy I am. Help me speak truth about how I’m doing in my relationship with You. I don’t want to conceal bad behavior. I want to live honestly as I seek You.
