But she answered him, "Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." Mark 7:28 ESV

Jesus healed people in a lot of different ways. It didn’t matter if they were nearby or far away—if they had faith in Jesus, He worked miracles for them. That’s why the episode of Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman is such a surprise. She obviously had faith, but Jesus seemed hesitant to help her.

Mark 7:25-27 says, “A woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, ‘Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.’”

This mother poured out her heart to Jesus and He compared her to a dog? She could have turned away, but she pled her case again, humbly asking for the same treatment a dog would get at the master’s table. This woman’s faith in Jesus was tested and found true. Jesus healed the woman’s daughter.

When your faith is tested, humbly persist. Jesus isn’t being mean; He knows what’s best. If you have faith, He may not always grant your request, but He will always give you what you need.

Prayer: Lord, strengthen my faith in You.
