For Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people. Ester 10:3 ESV
The story of Esther and Mordecai doesn’t specifically attribute any particular actions to God, but the goodness and selflessness of God’s people are themes running throughout the story. They worked together to save God’s people from an attack by putting their own lives on the line. When they gained power, they sought ways to ensure the welfare of their people and to bring about peace for them.
What kinds of opportunities do you have to serve or benefit others? Nothing may come to mind right now, and that’s perfectly fine. Yet today’s story is a reminder that you have influence, positions, and opportunities to bring about peace and justice for the people in your circles. You may not face the same kinds of risks that Esther and Mordecai faced, but you may have to inconvenience yourself for the sake of others in order to bring about good things for them.
Much like Mordecai, you may only need to remain vigilant for now, aware that someday you may be called upon to help others.
Prayer: Lord, I trust You to guide me in using my influence for the benefit of others.
