How to love God?

God is love. Therefore, to love God. is to make love, the only desire of our heart. Since, to love, is a choice; to love God is a choice. To love Him we must know Him and have true faith in Him. When we have true faith in Him, we will imitate Him. We will, therefore, passionately desire to empty our self completely and unconditionally in order to serve others. When we care for others without any string attached, it is out of pure love. Therefore, when we help others out of pure love it is done cheerfully; it is free of resentment; and it is untiring. In addition, when we help others out of love for God, the opportunity to help others itself is a reward to us; because to help others is our delight and heart’s desire. This is what God desires from us.

Helping / loving others is the second commandment. The first to love God. Matt 22:40. So, loving God clearly entails more then just helping others.

If we look at His commandments in scripture we see many that have to do with respecting Him. Have no God's before Him. Honor our bodies. Have communion often. Pray often.

We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind and soul and then our neighbor as ourselves.

God wants relationship with us. How is That accomplished? By accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit immediately comes to indwell that person -- Jesus Christ is the mediator between God and mankind. So a person can talk to God / prayer and read His Word / learn , meditate on His Word. Obey His Word.
