How to die to myself?

Jesus, the ultimate solution

This thread is getting more exciting by the day. And yes, keeping your eyes on Jesus is the complete package solution I got to realize and that it is mostly the advice that's going around on this thread. Great advice I may add, because it WORKS!!

Keeping my eyes on Jesus - from there on everything falls in place and I can't even remember why I had my knickers in a twins for in the first place. Jesus is really all that we need, doesn't matter in what situation you find yourself or what you did. He is the sole solution to every problem.

I keep on getting this image in my head. That we all are walking on a very very high ledge. If we take our eyes off Jesus, that's leading the way and helping us not to fall, we realize how high we are and we get scared and start to panic and franticly try to help the situation ourselves and that’s where we slip and fall. But Jesus isn't close for nothing, He quickly grabs us by the hand and put us safely back on the ledge telling us: "Eyes on Me little sheep, eyes on Me"

And another good example He also showed me is we are His little sheep. Following Him in the wilderness on our way home, we need to walk very closely to Jesus, in other words to stay in His light, to be able to see. The moment we stop and look around, or listen to the wolves howling or other strange noises, the moment we get distracted and fall behind, we get scared and we panic. Because Jesus is always moving, we must keep on moving with Him in His light towards home. But He never moves to fast or to far that we can't find Him again. It all goes with learning lessons and discipline as well.

Did you know, that we love a infinite God? A God that can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others.

I wanted to share a picture of Jesus and a little sheep that is very dear to me, I great blessing. But unfortunately I only have 54 posts and not 100. Well, hope in time I will be able to share it with you all.

Blessings
Sheep

I would like to know more about dieing to oneself. I know it doesn't work overnight and a persons faith is perfected by deeds/doing.
You can't just sit around and expect something to happen, a step of faith need to be taken.

Anyway, does someone have some kind of information where to start. I've prayed to Jesus a million times to help me to die to myself. But before I know it, I'm back on wanting something from someone or expecting something in return. Most of the time I get disappointed.

Some info on this topic will really be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am currently working on this myself, and though I am no expert, I do have one thing that helps me.

There are things in my life that I cannot overcome, no matter how hard I try no matter what I do, I can't do it. But thankfully God can, so while He's working on that, I'm just making sure that I'm following His will, reading the Bible, and engaging in fellowship. While I do all this good stuff, He is at work on the bad stuff, and over time I will be molded and transformed to be more like Him.

Don't focus on what you can't do... instead, focus on what you should do (the Bible tells you what to do)... Dwell on the things of God.

Also, it seems you may need God to fill up your "humility" and "love" tanks. You said you are always wanting or expecting things from people. But true love does not expect things in return, and humility means doing things without necessarily being "paid" or "honored". Perhaps you should pray more for the fruits of the spirit than for crucifying the flesh.

Here are the fruits of the spirit, you may want to dwell on these:
love, peace, kindness, gentleness, goodness, self control, patience, joy, and faithfulness.

Some great advise Audrey!

Sheep, I would add one thing about your statement on Faith. Deeds and Doing is important but be cautious. God does say that with out works your Faith is dead. The point here is that these deeds and doing are fruits of the spirit and of Jesus Christ living in you.

Jesus said (paraphrasing): " I am the Vine and you are the Branch, if you are in me and I in you, you will produce much fruit but, with out me you can do nothing". When you allow him to work through you, it is his fruit and not yours. Believe in this, listen for his voice and the works will come. God also says that our Faith grows through reading his word.

None of us do this perfectly. The key is to know that it is a process of growing in him daily and when we mess up, he took care of that on the cross!

Simply put.....Choose the WORD over anything else. The flesh, that is to say the old nature, habitual ways of thinking, needs to be replaced with new habits and ways of thinking. We, once we are born again do not have the old nature anymore but we have the nature of God. But old habits of thinking need to be subdued. We learn to live and walk in our new nature, having the mind of God.
2 Timothy 1:7 (CJB)
7 For God gave us a Spirit who produces not timidity, but power, love and self-discipline.

Romans 6 has plenty of instruction for "dying to self", that is dying to sin and knowing it happens. A key verse is Romans 6:11 (KJV)
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

That word "reckon" is very helpful, though most of us don't use it properly. The Greek word is based on another word meaning to "take inventory" (of one's self), so it's translated as think on this, account for, count it out, etc. mentally determining. You reckon when figuring up how much cash you started with, and deduct in your mind how much you ought to have left, without opening your wallet. So we should continually examine ourselves whether we agree all day everyday with the contents of Romans 6. There are lots of other similar scriptures. Am I right now in faith believing what Jesus did for me, and am I behaving like I really believe it? Since many things happen too quickly to analyze every situation thoroughly, I find it best to confirm my belief before stuff happens.

I reckon I will pass up desserts for a week due to gaining a few pounds lately. When in the buffet line, my decision is already made, already reckoned that I don't need excess fat and sugar. I then later reckon that since I ate a healthy plate, I shouldn't have to think about high blood sugar, etc. Sure enough, checking it finds a normal level. Good reckoning!

Apply reckoning the word of God. Of course it must be "in your pocket" so to speak, so study it well.

When Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane, he prayed ... Father.. not MY will.. but YOUR will be done.
Dying to self means dying to your will, your ego, your priorities.
Making God's will more important than your own will.

Luke 6:46; "Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?

If you're not being obedient to God, He is not your Lord... it's that simple.

How about we try this?
John 14:14-16 (CJB)
14 If you ask me for something in my name, I will do it.

15 “If you love me, you will keep my commands; 16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever.

If we love HIM we'll do as His Word says. Saying no to our desires and yes to His We do NOT try this....we do it.
