But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. Colossians 1:22-23 NIV
When you accepted Jesus as Lord, His Spirit entered your heart and brought you eternal life. This verse then encourages you to continue to live as God's child, loving Him and obeying Him. Build your life on Him; sink your roots deep down into His truth, the scriptures, and be nourished by Him.
The idea is for the roots of your faith to become completely intertwined with Jesus, even as a tree's roots reach deep into the rich soil and spread completely throughout it. Today's verse says, "Be strengthened by the faith," and both sinking your roots deep and receiving constant nourishment strengthen you.
First, if your roots go deep and wide in Christ and His teachings, you'll be solidly rooted and unshakable. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV). Second, you'll receive constant nourishment. Paul prayed, "That he would grant you…to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man" (Ephesians 3:16 NKJV).
Prayer: God, thank You for the amazing beauty of this truth from Your Word. Thank You that You see me as pure and wholly acceptable.
