[Matthew 8:22 KJV] "But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead." *********** I hear people say they follow Jesus according to his earthly ministry of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Christ's earthly ministry was to Israel. He was preaching the gospel of the kingdom to Israel. The kingdom was the millennial kingdom, in which, believing Israel would reign with Christ.
[Luke 14:26 KJV] "If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."
[Luke 14:33 KJV] "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple."
[Luke 18:22 KJV] "Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me."
[Matthew 5:19 KJV] "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
[Matthew 5:20 KJV] "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." ************* These are the commanded requirements to follow Christ.
[2 Corinthians 5:16 KJV] "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we [him] no more." ********* We aren't to follow Christ after his fleshly ministry in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
[1 Corinthians 11:1 KJV] "Be ye followers of me, even as I also [am] of Christ." ********* We are to follow Christ by following Paul. In Paul's epistles we find all of our commandments, instructions and doctrine.
