In the book of Hosea, Israel is referred to as "him." Israel the nation is always referred to as "she" before this point. As far as I know, the scriptures aren't speaking of Israel the person. Why is Israel a He instead of a She in this portio of the book?

Hosea 9-11

The Bible often refers to Israel as a "he"; I take it to mean God is speaking of Israel as His child, just using a masculine pronoun. Since the Bible is an allegory, God calls His children many things; sheep, an adulterous wife, an unruly child, and so on.

I think it was Spurgeon that said that God is so masculine, He makes everything else in existence seem feminine. I always loved that!

I didn't think of it that way, thank you. My grandmother and I were both confused and puzzled by it. Again, thank you for responding.

God Bless.
