Hope is the Result of Self-Sacrifice

"He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:25

Jesus asked his followers to do what appeared to be impossible, following His example of self-sacrifice--and even death--with the hope of God's new life expanding to many. Could they ever hope to see the fruit of their sacrifices? What benefit could they ever see from this counterintuitive selflessness?

The only guarantees offered--to them and to you--were the example of Jesus and His promise that you can't protect your life. The only way you can save your life is to surrender it to God. The only path to eternal life is through Jesus' promise of the resurrection.

There is nothing in this world that you can protect. There is, ultimately, nothing to gain by serving yourself. True security and hope for the future come through surrender to God and a daily trust in the life and message of Jesus.

Is there an area of your life that needs to be surrendered to God? The harvest that Jesus spoke of extends beyond the disciples and even impacts future generations. There may be people among your family, friends, and coworkers who will be inspired to seek God tomorrow because of the sacrifices you make today.

Prayer: Lord, I trust You to use my life to bless others.
