Holiness, The Cement Of Christianity.

During the 40 years that I have been a serious student of the Word of God, with an assignment from my Master Jesus to preach the Word, seek the lost, and make disciples, an over riding thirst has been to be a holy vessel for the Holy Spirit to minister through.

A.W. Tozer once said, "Whatever else the professing Christian Church may be known for today - great crowds, expensive buildings, big budgets, political clout - it's not distinguished for its holiness."

Eight times in Scripture, God said to His people, "Be Holy, for I AM Holy."

Lets talk about what it means to be "Holy".

God calls us Holy, Righteous and Blameless. I don't think we have any chance of being any of those by ourselves, but rather he is talking about the Holiness, Righteousness and Blamelessness of Christ through us and God, therefore, credits us with those 3 elements.

For me being holy,and staying holy in Christ Jesus is measured by the understanding of the sincere milk of the word.GRACE!( gal 1:6-10!!) Holy seen by others,is knowing the person they are bearing witness to being this way,is all because of the grace both in words and deed that persons fruit bears to them.( col 4:6) And instead of deeming that man or woman as Holy,they are drawn to who got them that way to start with!( john 3:30-34!!) My two cents worth lol

I will leave the Holy Part to Jesus and seek His Grace and Glory. As I follow Jesus and put the written word of God to work in me and through me then I know Jesus will perfect the Holiness that I need.
Interesting thought I heard in a sermon the other day.
Even a wicked man hasno trouble seeing the holiness of God. Now the Love of God he just does not know andmany believers truly have no clue to how deep and wide Gods love truly is for us.

Now then look at Peter for this example......
The first time Jesus to go back and throw out his nets fort a catch peter did and we know it was a record catch.
When peter came to shore he looked at Jesus and I kind of beleive hid his face when he told Jesus to get away from him for he was a wicked man...Peter saw the holiness of Jesus.

Now the second time Jesus told them to cast the net out on the RIGHT side of the boat. They did and caught a net full of fish. John soon realised it was Jesus and peter jumped in and swam to Jesus.....This time peter knew or SAW the LOVE of Jesus..
Love and Glory is more powerful then Holiness and most claim it to be the other way around....

Thank you Brighthouse for your post. I hadn't thought of holiness that way. I find your thought that if I notice the holiness in another person, I will be drawn to Jesus because He made me that way. Good thought, I like it.

Rom 12:3 For by the grace GIVEN to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself,(or herself) then they ought to think;BUT to think so as to have SOUND judgment! As God( himself!!) has allotted TO EACH!! ( meaning a perfect balance! meaning rom 2:11,and acts 10:34 THE SAME!!) a measure of faith! To some, being Holy is placing another beneath the knowledge you believe you have,but if we are a servant,the only thing we are to measure at all,is the portion of fruit we bear to each other.( proverbs 27:1-2) VERSE 2! and 1 cor 1:30-31!!!) As a servant we do not need the spotlight to shine upon ourselves,but rather upon the fruit which is born through Jesus in us.( Matt 5:14-16!!) VERSE 16!! For being Holy, through our Jesus, shines the light where the light came from in the first place!! HIM! Blessing all!!

To be Holy is to be separate from this world, and all of its desires, and lusts. Once a man becomes "born again" the process of sanctification, begins which means, "to make Holy". God the Father along with the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit begin this process of "cutting away the cords that have bound us to this world" God is Holy, and that is one of his names, "his name is Holy..."(Luke 1:49) Where ever God is is Holy, even the ground in which God stands or rests, so his temple must Holy which is what we are. Each and every part of men must be Holy, spirit, soul, and body. What benefit is gained by being Holy?

1 Tim 4:7..But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1 Tim 4:8..For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Godliness, which is being Holy is profitable unto ALL things. Bodily exercise profits the body a little, but holiness is profitable not only for staying healthy, and giving long life, but it also profits us in the life we are living now, and that which is to come!!!
Holiness allows us to get all things the Lord has already given us through promises It allows use to experience today the world that is to come.

Those who are Holy
Speak a different langue than the world.
They sees things the world can not see.
They hear things the world can not hear.
They feel things the world can not feel.
They taste things that are not of this world.
For they are not of this world!!!

He made a statement that he had read where a man had once said, "Give me seven men who are filled with the Holy Spirit and are holy, we will turn this world upside down." Moody said, "I want to be that man." The sad truth? Neither man never found those seven men. Almost 40 years ago, I made the same statement, and I never found the seven men either.

I was going to say that, but decided to let someone else bring it up. In that case I can think of millions of men of great faith and in holiness who have turned the world upside down. The body of Christ is not just made up of those who are still physically alive today, but also all those who have gone before us.

Reading through this brought about my thoughts for study from today. ...i now recognize the sanctification process that began about 4 1/2 years ago. I always thought that it was the wilderness. And for me and my life i still see the connection. As i went through a wilderness type of situation, which God pointed out a verse to me in deut 4:14 where it states basically that Moses was to teach the children of Israel God's commandments, so that they would be prepared to enter the promised land. Well i believe that as i began the sanctification process, God removed my wrong thoughts (still working on) and my bad behaviors (not quite done with that one either) and then began to teach me His ways. And the rest of my life will be further sanctification, but my promised land...will be entered soon.

And for me and my life i still see the connection. As i went through a wilderness type of situation, which God pointed out a verse to me in deut 4:14 where it states basically that Moses was to teach the children of Israel God's commandments, so that they would be prepared to enter the promised land. Well i believe that as i began the sanctification process, God removed my wrong thoughts (still working on) and my bad behaviors (not quite done with that one either) and then began to teach me His ways. And the rest of my life will be further sanctification, but my promised land...will be entered soon.

And soon you will see him "face to face" and know him as well as he knows you...sanctification complete, perfection complete!:thumbsup:

Experience today yes, but only in part, but when complete perfection comes, then we will do all of these perfectly!

For the truly Spirit-filled Christian holiness is not only purity and being consecrated for spiritual purpose, but to separate from the carnal world. To be distinguishable from worldly practices/standards.
To be consecrated as a building, or vessels, or an alter, or a plot of land, means to be set aside from common worldly uses, and to be only available for sacred rites and worship.
