Hello, my name is Brittany. I grew up with minimal exposure to Jesus and God. My dad is agnostic and thinks religion is a crutch for a weak mind, and my mom is pagan. I don't agree with either of their views now. I grew up not really caring about Jesus or God, or really understanding either. I had a few times as a child going to church with my grandma and the influences of my parents prevented me from caring fully I think, my dad felt like he didn't have a choice growing up and decided to completely disconnect from the creator and wanted my brother and I to have the freedom of choice but I ended up having to find out about it completely on my own. . I ended up getting sucked into some of the new age spiritual practices. I've never done anything really, just read a lot about it and thought I understood how the world worked based on that, I have had some experiences with psychedelics and many ppl warn that they open you up to dark spirits but I feel like I was already possessed, and I was able to realise this and clear a lot of that out of me. about a year ago, I started being drawn to Christ and his teachings... I do not have anyone to talk to about this that can teach me, and it's a little difficult to try and piece everything together myself. I don't have any friends I feel I can talk to, I'm not close with my family and my boyfriend seems to be uncomfortable talking about this subject because he thinks all religions are here to control us, and constantly speaks about how all religions lead to the same path. I've found out that this really isn't the case, and is just something ppl who haven't even read the bible, or other texts say. But anyway, I am not interested in religion really, I am interested in God, and cultivating a relationship with him. I feel called to get to know him and heal myself.... honestly having a community or some friends that feel the same and can help me understand all of this more would be nice. I do want to find a church but I'm afraid I wont be accepted because I'm so awkward and don't really know as much as I feel I should, I know so little about all of this, all I know is how I feel.. I pray to God more and more every day and ask him to help me become closer to him and he shows me things in my waking life and in my dreams but I am still so lonely without people to discuss what i'm going through with. my boyfriend makes me feel like im unstable or crazy or dumb sometimes, and tries to make me doubt these feelings that have been growing in my heart. I ask God to reach out to him as well but I can see that he resists hard. sometimes I feel darkness when I'm around him and it can be a struggle because I've been trying to get rid of the darkness I detected in myself. I don't know what to do. I felt compelled to search for a youth forum or something (i'm in my 20s) and create an account on here, I joined one on facebook too but i feel like I want to talk right now. I just have a lot of questions, about what to do from here. I feel trapped and alone. I know that God is isolating me for a reason but it's really hard trying to figure this all out..

Welcome to the forum!
Consider the meaning of this verse:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33

If you are sincere in what you wrote in opening post you begun your search... you are seeking God, which means His kingdom and His righteousness. Now read the following verse:

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Heb 11:6

Where does this faith come into being? How does an unbeliever believe? Consider the words of this man whose child needed healing when he came to Jesus:

"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." Mark 9:23-24

The wanted his child healed but it readily admitted to Jesus his lack of faith. Jesus did, in response to the man's words, heal the child.

Talking to me and others on this forum may help you, but even more important than these conversations is your own conversation with the Lord. If you will talk to Him [this is prayer] and simply admit your inability to do things right alone, He will also help you. Along with this daily conversation with Him all alone begin to read the Bible. Eventually you should read it all, but a good place to start is with the 4 gospels. Read them slowly and interrupt your reading to talk to Jesus asking for help to understand and to obey:

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Matt 7:7

When you ask of Him also be careful about what you ask. Ask Him to help you ask correctly:

"Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." James 4:2-3

Welcome here - thank you for sharing!

Praise God that He is calling you to Him! Curious what you mean by "God isolating you for a reason"... I believe our soul is wanting a relationship with its Maker and so we do feel lonely at times, that is how God calls us closer to Him.

First glad to welcome you to Talk Jesus this online Community of Christian Believers in Christ Jesus! :-)
A mouth full for sure! LOL

Brother Amadeus has shared some good advice and Scripture verses with you. Like him and other Brothers & Sisters in Christ Jesus here at TJ. You'll find many available to seek advice from in the "how to" in your walk with Christ Jesus and your growth in knowing Him better and also growing in His Word the Holy Bible.

Will it be easy? Nope. You already know about the darkness, and the darkness won't give up easily what it once had to the Light of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. So, being pulled here and there, whether by family, boyfriend, or just the overwhelming overload of data available out there are but a few of what will attempt to block you and your relationship/growth with Christ Jesus.

Here are a few links for you to better know some of the things that over the years that many of us have come to find true, in life and in our own lives. No two paths will be identical on how we came to Christ Jesus, but all did direct us to our Lord and Savior Jesus. Realize that I'm not saying what your boyfriend is saying that all things lead to God. This is not true. Just another deception. Think of the Gospel (Good News), as being a life preserver that is in the water which is meant to save you. Darkness can't touch it or change it, but it will toss other preservers that look just like it, in order to deceive the unsuspecting. That is why, finding time to pray, spending time talking with God, and reading His Word are all important, as Brother Amadeus has pointed out.

You are always welcome to come here and ask your questions. You may find some of what is written here almost incomprehensible because some seem to enjoy going back and forth on what appears to be some minor points of what this Scripture means.... :( Don't let it get you down. You'll still have others that will open their hearts and their lives in Christ Jesus to you, and won't be shy about acknowledging that they don't know something, but will also be very willing to pray with and for you and yours. In Christ Jesus we are family.....as you can see by me using the Brother & Sisters titles. Bonded by the Blood of Christ Jesus on the Cross, who died for you, me, and the world.

Well I could go on and on and on :-) Just know that you are welcomed and have found an Oasis so to speak on the internet that you can ask away whatever is on your mind, and even peruse the already created threads for relief from the darkness that is in the World.

How do I accept Jesus as my Savior

How to be friends with God

Why Believe in Christianity

Attributes of God

However, as an addition to let you know that our heads aren't always in the clouds...personal information such as e-mail addresses etc. keep to yourself and don't share in open forum threads. Not everyone who comes to TJ has the best interests. Darkness tries to follow here to, and is why many members do pray us up here!

With all that being said....Once again be welcome to Talk Jesus!
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

A song that I was just listening to and felt moved to share with you! The first one is actually the author and singer explaining the song which is really powerful to listen to. The second one is the actual song. I hope you enjoy it.
