Hey all, my name's Kelly. I'm new. I'm a 19-yr-old Uni student from Australia.

I'm still figuring out if Christianity is for me. I come from a family with no religious upbringing whatsoever. While I can see the good side of this, (I love that because of that I've been given the freedom to CHOOSE to follow God, as opposed to it being drummed into me over my childhood,) my sister is an atheist and my mother is interested in different religions, but "would be concerned" if I chose to follow one single religion, (I think it's something about being close-minded,) and I'm pretty sure Christianity isn't the one she would pick. I don't want to be close-minded either, but I do feel like I have a connection with God. I feel like He's been guiding me for years, and working in my life. I live on campus at my University, where most people are of no religion (to my knowledge.)

Bascially I've also been to a couple of different schools and I have different social groups, some of which don't believe in God and follow no religion, and some of which are Christians and would be so happy that I'm looking into this. So i've got influence either way.. I guess that could end up being a good thing - one might cancel out the other and I can start from scratch! My boyfriend of 2.5 years who I love very much, is in a similar situation, so its great that we can explore God's ways together. Except that his family are all Christians, most people he knows are Christians, he attends Church regularly, and has essentially never known anything else. But I think he is looking for a deeper connection with God. I am the opposite.

So that's me and my religious situation in a (rather small) nutshell.

I pray you find the Lord Jesus Christ as you best friend, your Lord, your Saviour and your God. Have a good look around the forums and if you have any questions..... ask!

As Chad said, it is no mere co-incidence that you have come here to Talk Jesus in your search for the truth that your soul longs for. You'll find plenty of good and living food here, Kelly.
I can relate to what you say, and searched for years before finally stopping to actually listen to what the Gospel message was, and who Jesus is... and in Him I found freedom, that I didn't even know existed... but all along, it was the freedom that my soul had been longing for.

Gospel of John 14:6 & 7 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.


Many folks go searching for God, and often pass by the door, Jesus Christ.

Revelation 3:20 (last book in the Bible) Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Peace be with you, Kel. You've got Fred here, a born-again Christian since 2003. Prior to that I was a Christian of convenience, omly thinking about God in times of crisis.

Somebody sneeringly once asked me it had crossed my mind the all this Christianity was just one big con, and that there was nothing beyond the grave. I replied I was a winner either way. By acceptting the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart as my personal guide and Saviour, I know that He will intercede on my behalf, because NOBODY comes to the father except through the Son. Therefore I know that my past sins - which are many, are just that - past. The slate has been wiped clean through the Blood of of Christ.

If, on the other hand it is the biggest con in history with a third of the population of the earth being led up the Swannie, and there is nothing beyond the grave, I am still a winner, because since becoming a born-again Christian, my life has changed completely. Every single one of my prayers have been answered. He never answered me When you accept the Lord Jesus Christ into you heart, the old you dies - you are quite literall born-again of the Spirit.

I was a Christian of convenience up until 2003 - I'm now an old man of sixty, so I found redemption at the eleventh hours. Don't do the same as me, because you will never know when God calls you. I Hope you find the truth. Jesus actually says "Behold I stand at the door and knock..." Once you open that door of your heart, there's no turning back. You see, every devoted Christian questioned Christianity, just as you do now. Is it real? Is the Bible really from God? Did Jesus rise from the dead? Are we saved from hell if we believe in Jesus?... etc.
Just growing up in a Christian home doesn't make someone a Christian, as your boyfriend can attest to. We all come to a place where we decide to believe or not in Christ and desire a personal relationship with Him or reject Him outright.
The great thing about Jesus is that He stands up under scrutiny. For instance, I believe that Jesus was raised from the dead. We have written documents that attest to it, just as we have documents and archeological evidence that attest that there were once emperors in China, that there were Mayans in South America. There are thousands of manuscripts of the letters in the New Testament that date back as far as 120 AD, less than 100 years after Christ. That in itself is a miracle, many historical manuscripts about past events number in the 100s or less.
We also have eyewitness testimony of Jesus' disciples. Many people think that they lied, but who do you know that would die a horrible, painful death for a lie? The disciples were beaten, tortured, killed in horrible ways like beheading, in the gladiator's arena, crucified upside down, etc. If it were me, and I knew Jesus' resurrection was a lie, I would agree that it was a lie so that I could live. None of the disciples reneged on their statement that Jesus lives and is God.
More than the 11 disciples saw Jesus after His death. Many more saw him, including 400 people at one time. And all of the books of the New Testament were written in the life time of eyewitnesses, not centuries later. If something didn't happen like it was written, people who were at the events had opportunity to come forward and say that it was wrong. That isn't possible with any other belief-- it is always centuries later, like Buddha, or secret like the Mormon's gold plates and secret eyeglasses.
Let me tell you that Jesus Christ is not a religion-- it is a personal relationship between God and you. It is Jesus living in your heart, his Holy Spirit entwined with your spirit. It's a change in your life, but it's changes that you desire to make. You want to follow God and imitate Christ. You want to do God's will because it pleases him and because you have learned that it is the best for you.
Well, that's enough rambling for now-- but continue to remain open to Jesus... the Holy Spirit is convicting you even now. Praise the Lord!!
