Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 AMPC

The way a father nurtures his children is another indicator of new-life living. Your parenting decisions may require a change in perspective.

What if God had said, “I do not provoke you to anger, My child. I never seek to exasperate you. I want to train you and I will do that through My perfect correction, consultation, and clarity”?

This changes one’s perspective. It deals with how God treats you and not how you treat your children. Yet, by framing it this way, you might be able to appreciate the fact that God is not asking you to do something He has not already done for you. He doesn’t want you to be harder on your children than He is with you. Don’t miss the fact that, when it seems your child is difficult, the same can be said of you from your Father’s perspective.

Train, rear, and counsel your children tenderly. Always read God’s training manual.

Prayer: Dear God, make my heart soft toward my child. I don’t need to rule with an iron fist when You certainly haven’t done that with me. Let me model Your character so Your character seems natural to my child.
