Please help me explain how money is the route to all evil to my husband?

He's having a hard time understanding that. And he believes that it drugs & alcohol that's the route to all evil

Its easier and more straigtforward to say sin is the root of all evil, after satan's fall at least. Money's original intent is not evil, but to love money is evil itself. People abuse it with idolatory, power, greed, etc.

1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Thank You

Thank you Chad, that does make a lot of sense, I'll try that.

Oh by the way, I love the snowflakes!

Amen brother i agree, for the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

God bless

Amen, Chad and Fellowservant, because it is the love of money that is the root, this verse is not just a warning to those who are wealthy in earthly goods. Although being rich is probably a fruit of loving money because it doesn't seem possible for someone to to be rich against their own will. Even the poor can be affected and have a love for money and yet be in lack. I know of quite a few christians who would love to be rich, but I believe it is by the grace of God that they are not.

Jesus said , "you can not serve two masters, you can not serve both God and money" ( Matthew 6:24).

In one respect many christians today have limited the preaching of the gospel with the mindset that it takes money to do so. This ridiculous mindset implies or suggests that God is limited and controlled by money. Look at this story in the book of Acts.

Acts 3:1-11
1*Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. 2*As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3*When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.
4*Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” 5*The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting a gift. 6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any money for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”
7*Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and anklebones were healed and strengthened. 8*He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.
9*All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. 10*When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded! 11*They all rushed out to Solomon’s Colonnade, where he was holding tightly to Peter and John. Everyone stood there in awe of the wonderful thing that had happened.

If you read on through the next chapter you will find that thousands became believers through this event and it had nothing to do with money, oh, and did I mention that it had absolutely nothing to do with money, not even one red cent. Yet many will tell you that it takes money to preach the gospel and reach the lost, I say hogwash!!!!! This is just a lie that professional preachers use to get your money. It takes the power of God and nothing more.

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

See how the love for money can corrupt? Just as Jesus said, if you love money you will end up hating God, no two ways about it.

You have some really good answers there Jonah2005. Money isn't evil, it only becomes evil, if you idolize it before God. God come first in everything, including your husband/wife/mother/dad/brother/sister.

If we put and strive for money and spend less time having a relationship with God, then this become a great problem.

Mat 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

In fact, if you think about it and I often have, everything one has in their home, we could probably throw 50% of it away, we often buy things we really don't need or it's just to make the place look pretty. My TV has taken a 50% decline, since becoming a Christian, I don't buy magazines anymore, as they are full of junk. My music taste has changed, now I like rock and roll, but I am more into music that worships my Father and the Lord Jesus. This has all been a gradual process, little things that were important to me before becoming a Christian, just don't seem important to me now.

And you know, recently I often gone without food, but I do need spiritual food, if I can have a least 3 hours of spiritual food a day, I am very happy. I do eat bits of food, but not a main meal.

money is the root to all evil..I can answer this one with experience. My husband and I had everything a family could want for..money, beautiful house right near the beach 4 cars like nice ones, whatever we wanted to buy with money.....but we were very unhappy, we decided to pack up and go to the sunshine coast, we currently had lived in the city of Perth. We sold and gave away everything including cars, I gave my Commodore 2000 away...yes free
took our clothes a suitcase each...with nothing we were the happiest together. Pulled closer together as a family. and my hubby isnt a christian but he will tell you we were happier with nothing than with money and worldly goods.

Thank you all, for sparing your time in helping me out here. All of you have given me some great answers in how to share this with my husband.

I believe my husband means well & by the help of The Almighty GOD & Christ Jesus maybe we can help him to understand The LORD"S Word. *genesis.
