Hello!

My name is Amber and I'm 25. I'll be 26 this July 13th.

As of two months ago, I am saved. I prayed to God to show me how and he did! I truly understand the sacrifice Jesus made, and what it means for me, and the fact that the only way to get to God is through Jesus. Now I want to better myself as a Christian and make myself more pleasing to God. I feel that despite being saved and turning away from deliberate sin, I am not doing enough. I am having trouble severing myself from earthly life, and I'm worried that I'm putting earthly pleasures and events before God. Here is what I've started to do (thanks to God!):

Change my mindset to be nicer, kinder, more understanding, and more forgiving. I am letting go of the past and trying to be less judgmental toward others, and also trying to be less angry or irritated toward my family. I can't change my personality, but I can police my thoughts and feelings and train myself not to give in to anger and judgmental behavior.

I am becoming more close-minded. I know this sounds bad, but again, I am not judging others. However, I've realized that things I've previously thought were okay are not. I'll give a fairly controversial example... homosexuality. Although I have nothing against other people for sinning (being a hopeless sinner myself!), I have to realize that some things are wrong according to the bible, and that I should always put the bible before what society considers to be right.

I am reading the bible every night and studying its messages. It's surprising how many questions the bible answers when you're paying attention! I've been trying to go to church, but the church I've always gone to (and always trusted) is kinda far away and we don't have much money. I plan on getting baptized, since the bible stated that that is what God wants.

I've been keeping an eye out for things that might cause me to backslide and emotionally/mentally distancing myself from situations or people that I feel influence me in the wrong direction.

Finally, I have signed up for this forum so that I can ask questions and relate to other Christians. I really feel like the last couple of months has been an enormous spiritual change. The weight of anxiety and living has been lifted off my shoulders, and I feel really great. But there are still some things I'm concerned about, and I'm getting frustrated by what I feel is my strong connection to earthly desires and matters. I have shared everything I can with you about my new Christianity of the last two months... please tell me what else I should do and what I shouldn't do, so that I can be a better person and put God before earthly matters. Thank you!

Welcome @AmberFH
All I can say is "WoW" on reading your post. You've taken stock of yourself in a way that is both refreshing and uplifting for one so young in the faith. Kudos!

Here at TJ, you have have found a place where many Godly Brothers & Sisters in Christ Jesus who will have no problem sharing with you of their own testimonies and experiences. Along with the fellowship, prayer, that goes along with being supportive in your walk with Christ Jesus.

You ask for suggestions. Well, it looks like you're doing a rather good job of moving forward, by reading the Bible at nights. May I suggest finding a good devotional that you can do in the morning. Setting, a few minutes or more aside can provide you the fuel to start out the day on the right foot! Also, finding time to pray is a must. It's a method by which you can maintain contact with your new best friend :)

And by the way.......if I haven't said it before (I haven't) welcome aboard to Talk Jesus Amber with the FH!
