Hell: Fire or Loneliness?

Every time I read up on "hell," people refer to it in two ways:

1. Firey or,
2. Dark and Lonely.

I know for a fact that the lake of fire will be the final resting place for these forbidden souls, but for those in hell right now - is it a dark lonely place, a burning inferno, or what?

Scriptural evidence backing your claim would be great :) Thanks!

Greetings Big Daddy D,

you said.... I know for a fact that the lake of fire will be the final resting place for these forbidden souls.

Would you mind please giving Scriptural evidence to back your claim?

Perhaps we can take it from there.

Bless you ....><>

Good question. Jesus made reference to a garbage pit called Gehenna. It seems those who oppose the will of God will be considered unwanted and will be cast out as garbage to be disposed of. Hal Lindsey, author of the Late Great Planet Earth, supposes that the lake of fire for those unbelievers will mean that when the trash from their sin has been consumed, they will cease to exist. A friend of mine believes that unbelievers will be placed in perpetual darkness without God's mercy to intervene.

While the latter scenario may be true for those who simply choose not to become believers, I personally believe a darker fate awaits those who actively oppose the will of God. I believe that group also includes the bench warmers in the churches.

I do not believe any Christian can say they cannot think of anyone who does not need the saving blood of Jesus, or anyone who does not need prayer or understanding. I don't mean their friends, I mean the strangers, work colleagues, etc., they associate with in their daily activities. Should those who make little or no effort to be a light be treated as equals with those who do?

I do not say this out of condemnation. Do you have good work habits? Do you like being busy? Are you basically pleasant and approachable? Or, do you prefer to be left alone? Are you lazy, insecure, or snappish if bothered? Are you a people person, or Draconian? Do you believe in what you're doing or are you indifferent? Do you sulk if you can't get your way?

Cheers,
John

Dear Lord....Big Daddy this is not Yale (US) or Eton, (UK) or Springfield (US) or Mattersey (UK) places of education in matters of religion/science and such like.

This is a place where we magnify the Lord, and Calvary where Jesus took our place and suffered in our stead.

Good questions which you ask....without doubt, but the important thing is to know Him....to know Him....this is a real experience..,.

Jesus said "He that drinketh of the water which I give shall never again" Having had a drink many years back now.......I have lost my thirst for anything other. Even such info as you pursue......it is good.. But to what profit? Such information is unable to save from sin.

I recommend a drink, a good draft, I pray, of the Holy Spirit in your life.

I see that you were save pre 2000...I rejoice at such news.....But forgive me when I say that your question tells me that you need more of Him. A filling, a baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I feel that you have not yet met Him in Real power. Such is vital, to lift above the terrestrial

God Bless....and visit often

Dear Stephen,

It's so precious to me to hear brothers/sisters talk about a further experience with the Holy Spirit. I was truly, truly saved a very long time ago and I know Jesus, but I feel the peace and joy I had in the beginning of my walk with Him seems far, far away. I know "feelings" come and go and we shouldn't depend on them but on faith. But I sure feel like I'm operating in my own power and wonder if I like this other experience. Any thoughts?

Thanks Stephen!

hello all,not sure how this would fit in.
but something happened recently and I did some "research" about hell..

This is what I've gathered;

Gehenna (Greek) - Place of punishment
Matthew 5:22-29;Matthew 10:28;James 3:6

Hades (Greek) - The abode of the dead
Matthew 11:23;Matthew 16:18;Luke 16:23;Acts 2:27

Sheol (Hebrew) - The grave
Psalm 9:17;Psalm 16:10

I think it is both. In the Story of the Rich man and Lazerus Hell is descibed as Torment.
In the Parable on Talents the lazy bad servent is throw outside where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. I think Hell is a combination of physical and mental torment. It has fire that never goes out and worms that never die, but also has complete seperation from God.

Hello June

Glad you visit here at 'talkjesus'

Let me say that although your contact with Jesus seem's far away, it is still valid and real. You may feel "you operate in your own power" at this time. Such is natural........but Jesus never leaves neither forsakes, as He said.

John Baptist sent a message to Jesus "Are you the real thing or should we look for somebody else" Lk ch 7 v 19.. Imagine that, for a moment....
The man who baptised Jesus, who saw heaven opened, who heard God speak, who saw the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus..... Sends a message "Are you really the one"

We are all subject to discouragement, it happens to the best who follow

Jesus sent back "tell John blind eyes are opened, deaf hear, lepers are cleansed, dead are raised, the gospel is preached"

As Jesus encouraged John Baptist, I want to encourage you also in Jesus. Jesus is alive Jesus is real Jesus is with you

Be blessed in Jesus..........is my prayer

Please send me a private message if you wish......I lose track of my post's at times.
