I was presented with some interesting views about God.
I was surfing the web when I came across a site that stated
God has no gender, and that most Christians think He is JUST male.
They said that the creation of both male and female proves
that God has no gender, and they state,
God is spirit; God has no physical body. God is omnipresent, meaning that there is no place, no time, and no concept from which God is absent.

When I thought about Jesus and that he was male, I also
saw this:
there is no denying that Jesus was a human male,
whatever else he may have been. But Trinitarians say that he was both fully human and fully divine; therefore, his human masculinity must take the back seat to the divine nature of God.

So now I am confused...is God male, does God have no gender,
or does He have both?

I realize no one has physically seen God so I know this might
seem like an impossible question. But is there scripture,
any at all that might hint at something?

Be careful about the websites you go to because they will say anything without proof.

Personally, God has no gender. I call Him Lord, Savior, Father, Son because that is how the Bible addresses Him. All the names or pronouns used in the Bible for God are masculine. But He isn't like us. He isn't a gendered being. He doesn't need to be.

We are created in His image, His likeness, but that of course doesn't mean we are gods ourselves.

And some believe that God and Mary were intimate so that they created the baby in her womb. Nope! That's not what the Bible says.

Don't worry about what a website says. Get the proof yourself from the Bible. It will tell you.

I am careful, and when I know something is
wrong I think it out. But when I am
confused, I come here for help from my
friendly and wise sisters and brothers such
as yourself. :tongue-animated:
Anything can seem like truth when something
says it is stamped with a seal of approval.
Thank you for replying!

Hi dannibear.

Jesus was male, Jewish and a carpenter. Jesus after He rose on the third day ascended to rejoin His Father. They are spirit not flesh like us. Jesus is no longer Jewish nor is He a carpenter.

Jesus was before He became a man, spirit, and is and always will be God, eternal. Without father and mother, not human, without beginning or end. You could think of Him as existing within unapproachable light. There are some wonderful Old Testament visions, try Ezekial chapter one.

We when we are resurrected we are neither male nor female, similiar to angels. We will be immortal, indestructable.

Look at Pauls letters to the Corinthians.

Good point brother!

Thank goodness my physics teacher never talked about things
outside of light! I would have failed the course haha

That makes my heart pound. How exciting! Oh so wonderful!
I have been studying a topic in Corinthians. I will start from
the beginning this time.

These people totally ignore that God and Jesus are one and the same in that they are both God. Jesus was definetly MALE.

That shoots down any of their arguments right there.

The problem is people are trying to make God everything and nothing. What do I mean by that. If they can remove Gender from God they can then fashion him into what they want Him to be and therefore then God isn't who He is but what people make up in their own minds.

It all stems from rebellion. Women don't like male authority that God established in the Bible so let's make God's gender Neutral then we don't have to be submissive to men. Then there is the thing of bringing God down to the level of His creation. God is spirit like the wind or the forces of the Universe (that God created). So now in their thinking God exists in everything so everything is part of God etc..

So many ways are used to pervert God's Divinity. Making God gender neutral is one of them.

God = Jesus. Jesus was a MAN. So is God gender neutral?

I don't think of them as arguments as they were more responses.

God is spirit like the wind or the forces of the Universe
I wouldn't say that wind or the universe has a spirit. They are more
forces than a spirit. The Holy Spirit is well...a spirit haha.

God = Jesus. Jesus was a MAN. So is God gender neutral?

Also a very good point sister! I also had that in my mind when
I saw the article mention Jesus came as a Man, and I know that
God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all one. Or I could put
that cute response '1 + 1 + 1= 1 :giggle:

Thank you for your input! I am going to research into my Bible
and more sermons online (with scripture of course.)
A different opinion is always welcomes here, as I do not know
what view I am taking yet.

I talked with my husband about this topic.

He brought up some good points.

First, Jesus had to come as a male because there would have been no other way for Him to speak in public like He did or read the scriptures in the synagogue or Temple. He couldn't have been crucified either.

Also, Father and other names for God are titles. We don't have this really anymore because we don't have a patriarchal authority.

Oh and here's my thought...the reason there is a problem with this is feminism! :-S Feminism and the idea that men and women are the same messed up what God is truly to be.

Just my thoughts of course...but I think true.

In Luke 15 Jesus delivers three consecutive parables: the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost (prodigal) son. In them, God is likened to a shepherd and a father. Some of us are shocked to realize, however, that in the middle parable, Jesus likens God to a woman (Luke 15:8). Should this really surprise, since God made both male and female in his own image (Genesis 1:27)?

Hm...I feel the parables are more for illustrative purposes. I don't
know if this really supports whether God has both or no gender.

Numbers 23:19

1 Samuel 15:29

Romans 1:23

John 4:24

I found the above verses that might support God not having a gender.
Anyone feel free to explain these if that was not their meaning. :)
I would love some correction.

On the other hand, as MelodyC stated before, this verse I found
stating Jesus and God are one.

John 10:30

Thank you everyone for your responses. I am
starting to grasp the topic.

Ah, because honorable Jewish men were not to speak
to women in public. Something along those lines.

Feminism and the idea that men and women are the same messed up what God is truly to be.

I am sorry I don't think I processed that thought right. I don't
understand.

Thank you again!

I read a couple books of the Bible and my Bible handbook
and asked the Holy Spirit to give me an understanding of
this. I told God that I know this wasn't really an important
topic, but that I would like to know more about Him and
His nature.
Thank you sisters and brother for your responses
and the civil discussion.

Does God reproduce? I think we are projecting human qualities onto Him. He has no reason to be "male" or "female" because he is GOD. He just is. He embodies both qualities of males and females. We can see his female emotions in reading the old testament, and in the weeping of Jesus. But we can see His obvious masculinity as well.

Sometimes I think questions like this are out there to distract us from more important questions?

Sometimes I think questions like this are out there to distract us from more important questions?

Sorry if you felt that way. But I did not wake up one day
and think, 'I want to distract this entire forum'.
If this was a distracting question, you did not have
to answer. I asked out of my own curiosity and desire
to learn more about God's being, so that in turn, can
learn more about how better to hear His will for me,
to see Him working in my life. It is easy to learn about
a physical person. It is a little harder for someone
you can't see. I think we all worship a very creative
and huge, magnificent God. I can't help but want to
learn anything about Him. Sorry I wasted your time.

I didn't mean you in particular were trying to distract the people here. It was meant to be a very general statement that we tend to get hung up on things that really have no importance in the long run. I certainly am guilty of it as well.

I'm sorry that you took offense :(

I am sorry I took your post the wrong way sister. I
hope you can forgive me. :worried:

it's easy to read things in forums in different ways. No worries at all. Again something I'm guilty of lol!
