He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 ESV
Sunlight kills bacteria. This bit of household wisdom was scientifically verified by a group of researchers led by Ashkaan Fahimipour at the University of Oregon in a 2018 study published in the journal Microbiome.
Researchers placed household dust in three dollhouse-size rooms—one that sat in darkness, one exposed to sunlight, one exposed to ultraviolet light—for ninety days before analyzing the samples for bacteria. The sample that sat in darkness had twice the amount of bacteria as the sunlit and UV-exposed samples.
The healing influence of sunlight has long been known. In fact, the Bible is full of examples where God’s presence and healing are associated with light. Here are two examples:
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (John 8:12).
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
If you want to be spiritually healthy, live your life in the light of the Savior. Don’t walk any longer in the darkness of sin.
Prayer: Lord, You’ve delivered me from darkness. Help me live in Your light.
