And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat and confess over him all the iniquities of the Israelites and all their transgressions, all their sins; and he shall put them upon the head of the goat [the sin-bearer], and send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man [a]who is timely (ready, fit). Leviticus 16:21 AMPC
Once a year, Aaron was to enter the Holy Place with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. He had to bathe, put on the holy linen undergarment, then sacrifice two male goats and one ram before taking a censer full of burning coals of fire, along with two hands full of incense into the Holy of Holies.
He had other rituals to obey, as well, including the one you read about in today’s verse about sending the sin-bearing goat away, which is an obvious reference to Jesus, who would one day take on the sin of the world as the ultimate scapegoat.
What ran through your mind as you read about everything Aaron had to do once a year to eradicate sin? As you reflect on what Aaron had to do, rejoice that Jesus paid the full price for sin, once and for all. He was faithful, even when you weren’t.
Prayer: Father, thank You for being faithful to make a way for us to go to heaven when there was no way.
