Hating Life?

"He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:25 NKJV

Have you ever known someone who, during an especially difficult season, said something like, “I hate this life”? That sounds like a man who is seriously discouraged—even depressed—doesn’t it?

On the other hand, didn’t Jesus tell His followers to “hate their life in this world”? But Jesus wasn’t saying you should go through life with a long face, hating the fact that you’re stuck here on earth. That’s not the “abundant life” He promised those who love and faithfully follow Him (John 10:10).

You’ll live an unshakable, abundant life of faith here on earth when you remember that this life is nothing compared with what God has for you beyond the here and now: your forever home in a place Jesus called “paradise.”

God has given you a precious life here on earth. You can express your gratitude by giving your every day to Him as a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me physical life. But help me to remember that there’s much more than the short time I get to spend here on earth. Remind me daily that You call me to serve You and honor You while I’m here.

Jesus is talking about the way the world lives life, which is living to the “flesh”.

Notice what Paul says here….

Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

So we need to hate that way of a sinful life style. Sin is self serving, so if we sacrifice self and serve God, we lose our own self serving life, and are given eternal life by now serving righteousness and serving God.

Loving this “fleshy worldly life” is what is referred to as the pride of Life.

1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
