Hello,
I was indoctrinated in Catholic schools. I never cared much for going and most of what they taught made no sense. It seemed to contradict the physical world. I stopped religion all together except to debate with Christians occasionally. I became a scientist.
Later I got involved with various Christian churches because of a woman I was seeing. I came to know the Christian bible quite well.
Later I decided the whole thing didn't make sense. I could see some advantages to having religious organizations for community purposes. But I couldn't believe in miracles, prayer or a personal god.
I am transhumanist atheist now. You might say I'm a hedonist. Basically this means I favor using science, reason and technology to end all human suffering. I think suffering is why people turn to religion in the first place.
Please ask me any question you have about why I am not a believer and why I am a humanist.
P.S. I find inspiration in the song Imagine by John Lennon:
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
