In Isaiah 27:1 says "In that day the Lord will take his terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan,<sup class="footnote" value="[<a href=&quot;#fen-NLT-18128a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;>a</a>]"> the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea."

what is Gods sword?

Hi Quenton,

The swift sword which is spoken of being used by our Lord to defeat leviathon is the very written word He has used against satan before. Remember when He was tempted in the desert by satan and what did Jesus say " It is written" over and over again this what
what He used then and what He will use to defeat that serpant once and for all.

In Revelation2:12 And unto the angel of the church in Pergamos write, These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword. ...this two edged sword is the powerful word of Our Lord Jesus Christ's mouth.

Hebrews4:12 For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

In Hebrews we see that "The Word" Is sharper than any two edged sword. Can you imagine anything more powerful than the Word Himself using the written word to slay that ole sperpant...Jesus is the living word which we see here in hebrews and Being the living Word will use that terrible swift sword of the written word to kill the dragon of the sea.

yes, I have considered that. however does God use his word to kill?
You crushed the heads of Leviathan[c]
and let the desert animals eat him. Psalm 74:14
this also says he crushed his head and let the desert animals eat him
how does the word crush?

If the Leviathan was the Devil as I think you are saying how could he be dead and being eaten by the desert animals?

In Psalm74:14 You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, and gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

according to my King James Study Bible Leviathan speaks of various evil forces over which God has ultimate control and victory, so eventually Leviathan became a symbol of satan who is "the dragon, that sperpant of old" and the people inhabiting the wilderness refers to beasts.

In Revelation20:2-3 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set the seal on him, so tht he should decieve the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

Rev.20:7-10 Now when the thousand years have expired, satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and magog(nations in rebellion against the Lord) to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. The devil, who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Satan is the father of all lies, so when the King of Kings who is the truth comes back and opens His mouth to speak it will be the very written word He will speak and it will crush all the lies satan has ever told and all the evil deeds he has ever done which in turn puts an end to him or kills him...there will be nothing he can do about it..the truth always kills a lie because once exposed that lie is no more and has no more power much like satan. once our Lord comes and exposes satan for what he is using the word he along with his lies will die.

Please explain Job 41 if it is indeed Satan

Quenton,

You had asked if God's Word can kill...one thing that may be helpful to understand is, a sword in battle is used offensively and defensively. So, bearing that in mind and the Scripture 2 Cor. 10:4, the sword of God's Word (which is Jesus, John 1:1, 14), empowered or enlivened by the Holy Spirit, will destroy or kill the works of the enemy...the strongholds. By doing so, it can bring life to those that are bound and the ability to see through what was holding them back and leading them to death (sin)...how does it do this? (by correcting, reproofing, and instructing on righteousness, 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21). The sword or Word of God will offend the enemy and his cohorts and will defend in righteousness. Therefore making those that are led by His Spirit, or sons of God, victorious in their battles (2 things at one time...2 edged sword...Matt. 10:34-37; Luke 12:51-53; Psalm 149:6; Heb. 4:12).

In regards to Job 41...well, that is the sword or Word of God working at it's best (a perfect example). The Lord was fulfilling exactly what He expects us to do by correcting, reproofing, and instructing Job throughout that chapter...speaking to him of Himself, so that he would understand Who God really is. The Lord was 'stripping' down the whiles of the enemy in Job and enlivening him (his spirit) on understanding the Truth, or God's ways, therefore strengthening him in righteousness and weakening the works of evil in him...bringing him life and dividing the spirit and soulish nature. The Lord was talking about how powerful and mighty He truly is...by just speaking, He is able to do everything (which He described of what He's able to do in that chapter)...comparing Himself to mankind...that they are nothing without Him...they have no power without Him...the power to overcome all things (the enemy and his tactics). In addition, the Lord also was stating that He created the enemy and He was and is more powerful than him and his ways (Job 41:9-11); that if anything, we should fear Him...the One who created all things and is able to destroy all things if He chooses (Matt. 10:28).

You have to also remember that throughout the book of Job, Job was dealing with a lot of others' opinions on how and why God was doing what He was doing to him (dealing a lot with fear, or fear of man specifically), so this chapter was a crucial part of Job's refining...when the Lord made clear to him who he should fear (not man, Psalm 56:4; Heb. 13:6; Psalm 118:6; Rom. 9:20; Isa. 50:2); not the enemy, but God Himself and look to Him as your Help because He will not fail you in the work that He has begun, as long as you continue to believe and trust Him (Luke 8:50; Daniel 10:12; 1 Chron. 28:20).

in Job 41 God is answering Job after Job has questioned Him and once again Leviathan or satan is the subject. God is saying to Job can you if you awaken leviathan(satan) do all the things that need to be done to defeat him like I can..do you think you can job? Who are you to question my authority..God let it be known that He is all powerful and only He can defeat satan..job's pride had been exposed and as we know who is behind all pridefulness...its satan therefore leviathan here is also satan himself that God is talking about and telling Job that he could never succeed in beating liviathan or be able to rule world better than God has and does.

in job 41, i actully believe that God is speaking of a animal, not satan, because of verse 6, i do not believe that satan is to be a banquet. also the despriction of it sounds like a croodlie , satan has already been defeated, so why spend more time on him than is needed. spend more time on God, less on satan.

in what way does the description provided in 41 resemble satan?

"a king over all the children of pride" Job 41:34, so the animal is also symbolic of Satan

just says he is the proudest creature not that He is satan...

34 Of all the creatures, it is the proudest.
It is the king of beasts.”

take a look at Isaiah 27:1

In that day the Lord will take his terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan, the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea.

If Satan is the Leviathan why is he living in the sea?

14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan
and let the desert animals eat him. Psalm 74:14

I also don't believe anyone has told me the day he died or how animals managed to eat the Devil..

that honestly didnt do nothing to answer that verse. Your just saying he's satan however not giving scripture regarding the leviathan to prove it. Those scripture say satan has yet to die. But Psalm says the leviathan died and was fed to the people or creatures of the wilderness :)

And one other thing for both of you...

you want to call Leviathan Satan what about the behemoth he is a similar creature..is he satan too?

Job 40

See the ships sailing along,
and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. Psalm 104:26

Since when did the Devil play in the sea?

They all depend on you
to give them food as they need it. vs 27

when did the Devil require food or God give it to him?

I'm going to request hard scriptural evidence for the Leviathan being the Devil if none is provided I would like this thread to go back to the original question and someone give me evidence for it. Otherwise....

Also if the leviathan is snake like in any way it would be a serpent so using the arguement of Leviathan meaning serpent doesn't work.

What is being described here is a two headed creature that breathes out fire. A creature that knows that it is the most beautiful ever created. A creature that is indestructible from everything and everyone except God. A creature who, the very sight of, causes terror in the hearts and minds of men.

It was Known to Job

A one of a kind creature that was alive and known to Job, who was a real person (see Ezekiel. 14:14, 20; James 5:10-11) and who is believed to have lived around the time of Abraham.(Abraham was born around 2166 BC). We know that Job knew this creature from the way that God started the description of Leviathan. We can see in the first couple of verses an assumption of Job knowing the creature by the hearing it's name. Only with God, its not an assumption, it is knowledge.

It was Known to Asaph

Asaph wrote psalm 74 which speaks of the heads of leviathan in verse 14. This confirms the two heads of leviathan. Asaph lived in the time of David and Solomon. This puts the time of writing between 1040 - 940 BC.

It was Known to an unknown author

Psalm 104, written by an unknown writer, in verses 25 - 26, shows leviathan to be a sea creature.

It was Known to Isaiah

Isaiah knew of leviathan and referred to him in Isaiah 27:1 where reference is made to God punishing leviathan by killing him. And when will this happen? Verse 26:21 and 27:1 says it will happen on the day when the Lord comes out to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. That Day of the Lord is yet in the future. That means that Leviathan is alive and well today.

Isaiah also identifies him in Isaiah 27:1 as a "piercing serpent", a "crooked serpent" and a "dragon".

Compare Isaiah 27:1 with Revelation 20:2 where God's angel binds the "dragon" and the "old serpent" who is also identified as the "Devil" and "Satan" and with Revelation 20:10 - 11 where Satan is destroyed on the day of the Great White throne judgment where the sinners will be judged.

Isaiah also refers to a "fiery flying serpent" in Isaiah 30:6 which seems to be referring to Satan.

In Job 41:15 a statement: His scales are his pride -- perhaps this can be explained with the following passages from Ezekiel. 28:12 - 19, where a description of Satan is given. Ezekiel 28:13 describes Satan's covering, see how many other verses here fits in with the description of Leviathan as given in Job 41.

I don't know about you but the last time I checked you don't use a hook to draw out satan. You don't put a hook into satans nose..not because you can't but because you don't....

15His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
This says he has scales not rocks holding him together...

Well you restated that this verse says he has more than one head..however you don't show the time of death for the Devil back in the year 1040-940 BC...If satan died back than i gotta know I need to let the world know he's already dead eaten by man/animals

and the Devil is a sea creature to..got it

what part of 26:21 says Leviathan before or after he resurrected?

30:6 doesn't say nothing about fiery in my translations...it says snakes yes..fiery nope

0(zero)..he was made with jewels not scales....and other than your scales not being correct it doesn't show the hook etc. either

And you forgot to explain how the behemoth is a creature but levithan is satan

you haven't responded to my pms so i'll post my other question here...

what translation do you use?

Another thing about 104...it says..go to the ships...

why would man need to go on ships to find the Devil that MAKES NO SENSE
