something I learned in Church the other Sunday:
Most people think that you have to be perfect for God to accept them. But that is not true at all. When people say that, it alienates us from Him, instead of drawing us closer. Jesus came down, and gave us the 10 commandments, but he didn't say, " Ok, let's see who gets the most right." He put those in place so we wouldn't get hurt.
He knows our whole lives before we are even born.
He dosn't want to be a control freak, he just wants to make sure we don't get hurt.
His rules aren't a condition for his relationship, it's a confirmation. Exodus 20:1-17 is the reference for the commandments. My pastor was teaching this to us one day, and he said, the rules you make show what kind of person you are. That's very true for Jesus. He said, love the Lord, YOUR God.
He is stating that there is already a relationship there.
He dosn't want to be a lawgiver, he wants to be our savior.
How do I know? Because we are not here to get a relationship with him, we already have one. We don't need to earn one.
He chooses us, not because of what we have done, but because we are willing to trust him. A lot of my friends are always saying they are going to hell, but that is not so. He dosn't condemn you to hell the second you do something wrong. If we are willing to reach for him, then no matter what, he will be there. The thing we have to realize is, rules without a relationship cause rebellion.
My pastor gave a good example of this. Let's say you have a dog in a fence, but the dog gets loose and runs away. Most people would say, "oh well, he never listened anyways", but God purchased us with the blood of Jesus, so no matter what, we are His, and no matter what, he wants us. He gave us laws because he loves us, not to make us prove something.
Jesus died not because he knew we would get it right, but because we would get it wrong.
Anyone want to add to it, or correct, or give advice? This is what I learned, and if someone would like to point me in a direction if I'm wrong, feel free to do so. This is my first Bible study post :embarasse
