Let each one live his life in the situation the Lord assigned when God called him. This is what I command in all the churches. 1 Corinthians 7:17 CSB

The plans of God weave their way throughout the history of man, often unnoticed. Paul explained to the Athenian philosophers in the Areopagus that God placed all people where and when it was best for them: “From one man (God) made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:26-27).

More specifically, God has been at work in your life long before you even had a life! His plan for you went back “before the creation of the world” in Christ (Ephesians 1:4). Paul’s “command in all the churches” was to assure believers that God was pleased to call them just as they were and where they were. No need to abandon anything but sin! The married should stay married, and the single should stay single. Even slaves could stay in servitude unless the Lord directed otherwise—no one was any better or worse than another, and all were called to one purpose: the glory of God.

Prayer: Eternal God, open the eyes of my heart to see the purpose for which You’ve called me.
