By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. Hebrews 11:5
If you’ve ever read the Bible cover to cover, starting with the first verse of Genesis and ending with the last words of Revelation, and you still don’t know much about a man named Enoch, don’t feel bad.
Enoch is mentioned, seemingly in passing, in only four verses in Genesis 5 (vv. 21-24), in one verse in Hebrews 11, and from a quote in Jude 1:14-15. Nothing else is written of anything he did or said, yet this man—whom we know little about other than that he “walked faithfully with God” (Genesis 5:24)—rated a mention alongside some of the Bible’s greatest people of faith.
Maybe Enoch never did anything of note other than walk faithfully with his God during his 365 years here on earth. Or maybe, just maybe, Enoch’s short mention in scripture is there to teach you that your God is concerned not with what you do but with the fact that your life is an example of choosing to walk faithfully with Him.
Either way, while you may read the Bible and barely notice Enoch, God most certainly noticed this man, and He counted him worthy to take him to heaven without experiencing physical death
