For the LORD [is] good; His mercy [is] everlasting, And His truth [endures] to all generations. Psalm 100:5 NKJV
Do you ever just sit and think about how many things you have to be grateful for? You’ve probably heard that having a thankful attitude is good for you on many levels. And if there’s one thing we all have to be grateful to God for, it’s that He is…well, good!
The Bible repeatedly tells us that God is good, loving, and benevolent. Not only that, it contains many more examples of Him putting His goodness on display. The most amazing example of God’s goodness is that He made a way for sinful humans to be at peace with Him. This is God’s ultimate expression of goodness. But it doesn’t stop there. God is good to His people in many, many ways—and that’s because He himself is good.
James wrote, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). So think about how God is not just good but good to you. Then take a few minutes today and thank Him for His goodness!
Prayer: Benevolent, loving God, I sometimes lose sight of the fact that You are not only an all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful Creator; You are also, in a word, “good”. Remind me daily that You are good to me, not because I deserve it, but because You choose to be.
