Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where [are] all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites." Then the LORD turned to him and said, "Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?" Judges 6:13-14 NKJV

Gideon was hardly the perfect example of living by faith. In fact, he made a direct accusation against God, claiming that He had not saved the people of Israel from their enemies as in times past. Although their own sins were the cause of their calamity, the Lord didn’t hold his line of questioning against him. Rather, He sent this imperfect man to accomplish His mission.

You may have a strong sense of your own inadequacy, or you may be openly questioning God’s wisdom right now. Yet God can meet you in your honesty and struggles. If you remain open to doing God’s will, you don’t have to be a model of living by faith. You need only obey what God asks you to do. Much like Gideon, God can send you in the limited strength you have and still accomplish things beyond your imagination.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to have a humble, hopeful heart before You.
