Heb 12:7-8 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (8) But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

I have been wondering recently about how God disciplines His children.
I have sin in my life and have not received the "discipline" I have expected. I have always believed this discipline was some kind of correction/punishment .

This has concerned me because the scripture above says if I don't receive this discipline then I am not a son. So either I am not a son or I have the wrong idea about what "discipline" is.

You can see how this worries me.

A brother in the chatroom has given me a very logical explanation and I would like to hear others.

If you look closely at what the bible refers to as sin. It sheds some light on the subject. Sin has negative consequences. Murdering leads to prison. Stealing leads to prison. Lying will get you in bad situations that can hurt you or the others around you. Not respecting your parents will give you guilt when they leave this world. (not to mention you could get smacked lol) Sexual lust leads to you wanting more and more and more, which leads to STDs and feelings and hearts being broken. These however are only the products of sin. To shed more light on God dealing with you it would have to be something like this:

When you sin, you know very well it is a sin and it grieves your creator. Which strikes you with constant guilt that becomes eventually overwhelming to you. This is the primary reason that one confesses their sin. The guilt for the saved is unavoidable, because being saved we know the difference between whats wrong and right. When we can not see it, the Holy Spirit in us will step in and guide us. I sadly cannot provide strict scripture for you, but this is from personal experience. I hope that someone can provide biblical evidence though. I wish you luck. :D

Sin..........

Heb 12: 7-8.......... Chastisement also means in the Geek..... Instruction.

pahee-di'-ah
From G3811; tutorage, that is, education or training; by implication disciplinary correction: - chastening, chastisement, instruction, nurture.

Your expecting What???

Instruction??

We need to compare other scriptures....... If Chastisement means Education or training...... then other Scriptures must back that up....

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Why did he give those office callings??

Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Once again... Instruction in the Word.............. to correct, to reproof.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

What judged, and reproves out thoughts and intents??THE WORD OF GOD!!!

I gave 4 witnesses in Scripture to show How God corrects.....

God does not use sickness, God does not use disease, Car crashes, poverty, tragedy, pain, or anything like that... His Word is more than enough!!!

What are you looking for in correction, when you have the Bible??

Have you ever thought about something called Grace??
Have you ever thought about why you have that sin??

Do you really know better not to have that sin?? Really??

Let me tell you, if you had the revelation and knowledge about that sin in your life, you would not do it.... God knows what light you have, and if your not violating that light in God's eyes, then mercy and protection are still there... If you knew better, you would not do that sin...

We have concepts of Wrong.......... but do we have a revelation of Wrong??

What did Jesus say?

Joh 9:40 Some Pharisees who were near, hearing this remark, said to Him, Are we also blind? AMP

The Pharisees huffed up, and thought they were just super spiritual and knowledgeable ask Jesus if he considered them blind also... They were convinced they were not blind, but knew the truth...

What did Jesus say??

Joh 9:41 Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin; but because you now claim to have sight, your sin remains. [If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but because you insist, We do see clearly, you are unable to escape your guilt.]

They claimed to understand, they insisted they had sight.. the said they saw it clearly....

you can see things, and have concept of things.. but it's another thing to see it very clearly.. this is what Jesus was talking about.. they claimed to see it very clearly.... and thus where now guilty.. Jesus had to Judge them by what they said they understood..

WHY??

Only a fool goes to God with sin, and confesses they "KNEW BETTER"...... What they are saying to God.. I already know.. I see it clearly.. I have full understanding of this sin, because I have been born again for a long time, and I just am super spiritual and there is nothing else you can teach me about this, because I see it clearly and I do know better.....

Every try to help someone, and they blurt out... "I know.. I know... how to do this"

How do you think God feels when we go to him as the Pharisees did and say... God, I know better than to do that...

That tells God, there is nothing else to reveal or help you with...

Well, God should just punish me because I know better.......

That is dumb....

A wise person goes to God, and says this...

God, I know that when I do this thing, It just feels wrong, I know it to be wrong, but I need your help, and I am asking you for mercy and grace to keep working in me, and show me what this leads to.. Give me understanding and teach me more.... I know your truth, will Make me free of this...

Now God has something to work with... We have judged ourselves...

1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

We judge ourselves by admitting to God we want this area fixed in our life... We want grace through it, His mercy and love through it, His knowledge through it...

God looks at the Heart.....

We can break the cycle of Repent, Sin, repent, sin.... by getting in the Word and asking for help.....

Heb 4:15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Before we commit that sin again... lets just stop, and go boldly.... Hey Jesus, I need you help, and I need it Now!!! I will serve you, not my flesh!!

It's when we just keep repenting.. and just saying God, forgive me, I know better... please forgive me.. and go right back to where we where at....

That is when Satan can get a place.. and it won't be God putting you though the bad stuff.... Sin produces death, and gives entrance to the enemy..

But going to the throne... Taking a stance against that area of of life we need changed.... and though we might fall several times.. we get back up and keep striving toward the Word, and a heart that wants everything right..

Satan will not touch you..

Jesus Is Lord.

Agua, please understand that : If you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and that God raised him form the dead, then you are saved and are definetly his son, a child of God!

Gods chastening is not punishment, it is him revealing your mis-doing as sin. With out him in you, you might feel that you just did something wrong but he reveals it as sin to you.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: [32] Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith the LORD: [33] But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their G-d, and they shall be my people. [34] And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. (KJV)
This prophecy occurred some 750 years before Jesus fulfilled it the very millesecond that he died on the cross and ushered in the New Covenant. Jesus Christ was the first and the last Priest to sit down because his work was complete and he even sat down at the right hand of God.

Romans 8:1
There is now no condemnation for those who live in union with Jesus Christ.

aqua, God is revealing your sin to you as a refinement process to get you , day by day to become more like the one that he sees inside you. He no longer looks at you sin as condemantion or judgement.

Like all of us when your sin is revealed to you, keep working on improvement but, rest assured you are saved and his son!
