Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if [there is any] wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV
As you celebrate Labor Day, today’s key verse may offer a helpful opportunity to bring your anxieties or concerns about work, finances, or your future to God. God is present in your work and can bring blessings through your work. However, work can also be a source of stress and fragmentation. Ask God to reveal what is in your heart as you contemplate work or the work of others, and seek God’s direction in the way of redemption and life.
How does it strike you to ask God to “search” you? Do you want God rooting around in your life and examining your heart? Do you welcome a test from God or the unearthing of your anxious thoughts? Perhaps such revelations would be disruptive or discouraging for you.
Nevertheless, there is no other path to healing. God must search your heart and uncover anything that is wounded or offensive so that He can bring healing and transformation. While the searching part of the mission can be difficult, the rescue will always make it worthwhile.
Prayer: Father, I trust that You desire my healing and redemption from sin. May Your light uncover any darkness in my life. May I see Your path to everlasting life.
