He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8 ESV
Sorrow and death are a reality on earth, at least for now. Looking into the future, Isaiah offers you the assurance that God desires to eradicate every reason for tears and the looming threats of death. The damage of words and accusations will be relegated to the past.
Of course, such promises don’t seem to do a whole lot to help with your trials today. The promise of God removing death doesn’t change the lot of those who are breathing their final breaths today, and the promise of no more tears in the future doesn’t remove the sorrow and laments of those suffering the pain of loss today. The hope offered here is in the future, and yet it does reveal something of God’s character. God does not want death and sadness to be the norm in this world.
The hope of God today is that death does not have the final word, even if sickness, sorrow, and loss are realities to face now. God knows that all is not well, and He has come alongside you to bear your burdens with you.
Prayer: Lord, may I experience Your comfort and presence when I bear the weight of sorrow and pain.
