Do you suppose, O man--you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself--that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:3-4 ESV
Does God care if you obey His commands? Are there consequences for following your own wisdom or resisting God’s wisdom in your decisions?
The Psalms remind us that it can seem as if the evil and disobedient succeed while the righteous struggle. There is despair that obedience will never pay off in the long run while those committed to their own way enjoy success and prosperity
Paul suggests that we can look at this in a different way. God’s patience delays judgment, but it is not indifference to sin or disobedience. These are signs of God’s mercy for all people. There is hope that those living in rebellion will reconsider their ways, repent of their sins, and escape God’s certain judgment.
God will judge each person justly according to their deeds, even those who talk a good game but lead a secret life of indulgence and rebellion. There may still be some time to delay, but not forever.
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your mercy and patience. May I build my life on the solid rock of obedience to Your will.
