'Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection;
not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,
and of faith toward God,
Of the doctrine of baptisms,
and of laying on of hands,
and of resurrection of the dead,
and of eternal judgment.
And this will we do, if God permit.'
(Heb 6:1-3)
Hello there,
In my early thirties, I sat in a church building listening to an address on the first verses of Hebrews 6, and the necessity to 'go on', to leave babyhood behind and go on unto maturity. It was a pivotal moment for me, therefore etched into my memory. I fervently wanted to 'go on'. Yet, the words 'if God permit' impressed itself upon me, and though there was no hand pushing me into the pew, no restraint upon me, yet I felt that it would be in God's time and in His way. For there can be a cost for 'going on'.
For me to tell you of the walk that followed would not be helpful, I feel, for we each have our own walk with God. Yet it was into the prison epistles that God led me, those written by Paul, following the departure of Israel into the blindness of unbelief at the end of the Acts period. Into Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon, which tell of the hope, inheritance, sphere of blessing and eternal destiny of the Church which is the Body of Christ, and of Christ Jesus it's Head, now risen and glorified and sat at God's right hand.
The journey began at Romans 5:12-8:39, as I recognised that God had identified me with Christ in His death, burial, quickening, resurrection and ascension to God's right hand. I recognised that I had been presented holy and without blame before the Father, my sins having been forgiven me, and that I was blessedly 'accepted in the Beloved', and was now a 'son' of God by adoption in Christ Jesus, with an inheritance in Him in the heavenlies, and blessed with all spiritual blessings in that same heavenly sphere in Him,
The journey hasn't ended, I have so much yet to learn by God's grace, but if God will, I will proceed on into Christ, and be strengthened with might in my inner man, that Christ will dwell in my heart by faith, that I being rooted and grounded in love, may with all saints know what is the length, breadth, depth and height, and the love of Christ that passeth knowledge, that we may be filled with all the fulness of God.
Then when Christ Jesus our Lord appears in glory, I too, with all the members of His Body will appear with Him there, to be with Him for ever.
Thank you
In Christ Jesus
