Genesis 5:2 "God called [their] name Adam"

In the beginning God created everything in pairs, and on the 6th day God created man.

Genesis 1:27 says, "God created male and female in his own image".

Genesis 3:20 "Eve is the mother of all living".

So if the woman was created "together" with the man in the beginning. And God called [their] name Adam. The MOTHER of Adam is named Adam?

In the beginning God created the woman as the vessel through which life is carried.

In chapter 1 God "CREATED" man (on the 6th day).

Chapter 2 God "FORMED" man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breathe of life into his nostrils and he became a living soul.

According to scripture BEFORE God "FORMED" Adam.

God ALREADY CREATED male and female in his own image! See Genesis 1:27. God created the woman as a vessel to carry and give birth to life.

Because God created both male and female together. If the woman carries life, could it be that she was the first life to carry man? Biologically how could a male exist and not travel through the womb of his MOTHER?

Thank you for your response, and my apologies if anything I shared came across as offensive. The scripture says, “Seek, and ye shall find.” (Matthew 7:7) When Jesus spoke of the kingdom within, the Pharisees accused Him of blasphemy. Jesus is called the second Adam because, as it is written, “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:22) I see that God’s children were created in His own image and likeness. If Eve is called the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20), and male and female were created together in the beginning, then it seems reasonable to seek understanding in God’s Word about the woman — the vessel — through whom life first came forth. Mary is the mother of the second Adam, so it is worth asking: who was the mother or vessel of the first? In Genesis 5:2, God said, “He called their name Adam.” I only wished to understand who the they refers to, since God Himself used that word. I hope my inquiry does not offend you; my intent is only to seek truth in the light of God’s Word.

Peace and blessings in Christ.

Dear Wadu,
For if you seek that which is true, then it is through Him that you will find it. Galatians 3:28 says "There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus."

In my experience, many people who ask a question often already have an answer in mind. What they really want is to spark a debate, rather than genuinely seek an answer they don't already have.

Dear Nick,

Thank you for your response, and I truly appreciate you sharing Galatians 3:28. I agree completely — in Christ, there is no division, for we are all one in Him. My questions are not meant to debate, but to seek deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Scripture tells us to “seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew 7:7). My heart is simply searching to understand the fullness of what God has revealed from the beginning — how both male and female reflect His image, and what that means for humanity created in His likeness.

I know that true wisdom comes from God, and I only wish to grow closer to Him through His Word. I ask questions not to argue, but because the more I read, the more I realize how deep and beautiful His truth truly is.

With peace and the love of Christ,
Wadu

Are you saying that you do not already have an answer to the question you have asked below and so are seeking greater understanding than what you believe it to be?

Peace Nick. I appreciate your patience. I’m not claiming to already have the answer — I’m genuinely seeking greater understanding. When I ask, “How could a male exist if not traveling through the womb of his mother?” It’s not to challenge but to reflect on the order of creation.

Since everything God made was brought forth “after its kind,” I’m simply wondering if there is a deeper meaning in the way Adam came to be — especially since Genesis 1:27 shows both male and female created in God’s image before Adam was formed from the dust. I’m trying to understand how that connects to the pattern of life and birth God established in creation.

Dear @Wadu
Before Adam was formed from the dust and became a living soul. The latter is important contextually. If you separate as you are doing with Genesis 1:27 and then 2:7, then you must have them not yet have them as being in 1:27 as living souls. Also, because you have Eve later being made from the rib of Adam, Genesis 2:22, then does that mean that Eve was somewhere else during the time Adam was tending the Garden and not yet a living soul?

So you see the conundrum you are creating (no pun intended) by dissecting scripture in such a fashion? This will happen when someone tries to interpret a single verse in isolation to the rest of scripture. God gives you an overview of the creation of man in Gen 1:27 and the specifics in Genesis 2:7, 22. Not to be taken separately as if they were separate acts, but as one action with the focus providing different details of God's most amazing miracle of creation. God provides us a panoramic view and then focuses in on what He wants us to know in detail as we continuing reading.

So, I ask you this: If you're trying to understand how that ties into the pattern of life and birth that God established in creation, what is the purpose?

Peace Nick, and thank you for your careful explanation. I see what you mean about Genesis 1 and 2 being one continuous act of creation — the panoramic view and then the detailed portrait. I am not intending to separate them as if they were different acts, but rather to understand the implications of the “pattern of life” God established in creation.

When I ask about how a male exists, if not traveling through the womb of a mother, it is not to dissect scripture in isolation, but to explore the deeper wisdom in God’s creation. I am seeking to understand the order and design God established — the harmony of male and female, life and birth, and how this reflects His image and plan for humanity.

My goal is not to contradict scripture but to be enlightened by it, and to better understand the wonder of God’s creative wisdom.

Peace
