Hear this, you leaders of the people. Listen, all who live in the land. In all your history, has anything like this happened before? Tell your children about it in the years to come, and let your children tell their children. Pass the story down from generation to generation. Joel 1:2-3 NLT
Because God can take bad situations and ultimately cause good to prevail, even the bad stories that were touched by His grace can and should be shared.
God started talking to the oldest men first and said that the history they were living was to be shared with all future generations. Many had lived through a dark moment in history. The stories they shared could betray the struggle with trust they once faced. Some had not followed God and then lived through difficult times as a result. Who wants to share these kinds of stories? Remember-God had touched this story, so sharing it was important.
The cautionary tale of your own sin, the story of God’s faithfulness, and the message given to a people who would be restored are all stores worth sharing. Don’t let the message die out.
Prayer: God, there are stories I don’t want to tell because they provide, I have been shaken. But some of those same stories can make You famous to people I talk to. Help those who hear my stories to recall Your goodness, faithfulness, and live—not my bad decision-making, faithlessness, and jealousy.
