And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, yet not with a whole heart. 2 Chronicles 25:2 ESV

King Amaziah started strong during his twenty-nine year reign in Judah. He brought his father’s killers to justice and built a mighty army, but then he fell into idolatry. After striking down the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the men of Seir and set them up as his gods and worshipped them. His whole heart hadn’t been with God, and it led him astray.

His story is a common one. The hearts of humankind often find a false security in the things of this world. Today, Christian men wouldn’t bring back false idols from battle, but they would possibly worship other idols—like power, wealth, or sex—all of which appeal to the flesh and make false promises.

One of the saddest stories that can be told about a man after his conversion is that he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord initially but then was led astray and worshipped idols. Don’t allow that to be your story. Make a full commitment to the Lord and follow Him all the days of your life.

Prayer: Lord, I want my story to be different—one that brings You glory from the day I became a Christian to the day I close my eyes in death and open them in glory.
