In Matt 4:19-20; we see Jesus told the disciples to follow him.
In Matt 4:22; Jesus tells a few more to follow him.
In Matt 8:19-22; Jesus told a scribe how to follow him.
In Matt 9:9; Jesus once again says follow me.
Guess what Jesus says in Matt 10:38; ? Matt 16:24; ? Matt 19:21; ?
Of course most of these are also repeated in the other gospels as well.

What does it mean to follow someone?
When I was a child, we played a game called follow the leader. When he ducked, we ducked. When he jumped, we jumped.
When he flapped his arms we flapped our arms. Do you do the things Jesus did?
Once my younger brother didn't really want to play, so he said "I'm flapping arms in my heart".
Do you think Jesus wants us to just follow him "with our heart", or do you think he really wants us to follow him?
Do you think he wants us to do the things he told us to "in our heart" or do you think he really wants us to do them?
I could tell my daughter to clean her room in Latin, but I know she wouldn't know what I was saying. So that wouldn't fly too good.
She might even tell me, "I'm cleaning my room in my heart". I can tell you that wouldn't fly too good either.
Now I suppose, we could all get to together and have some meetings and talk about what it would look like to follow Jesus,
but again... that's not the really the same thing as actually following him.

Luke 6:46; “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

If we only believe in Jesus, but don't do the things he told us to do; are we really following Jesus?
Are you really in God's kingdom? If so, is Jesus really your king? Do you really obey him like you would a king?

Why is it that if my boss at work told me to get back to work and I answered "I'm working in my heart" that probably wouldn't fly.
(Maybe he would say "I'm signing your paycheck in my heart").
How about paying your bills at the bank? I wonder if we could simply tell our creditors "I'm paying you back in my heart".
Why is it that even though these things don't fly in the real world, some people think it's good enough in their Christian walk?

Does everyone who calls Jesus Lord really do what he says to do?

Matt 7:21; “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Matt 7:22; Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
Matt 7:23; And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

Can you really be a Christian, if you aren't following Jesus?

James 1:22; But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
Matt 10:38; And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
