The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
Many young believers come into the faith believing that they will no longer be tempted to sin in ways they used to before they were saved. Some quickly become discouraged or disillusioned when they find that temptation doesn’t just “go away.”
Temptation will always be a part of our lives here on earth. It was in the beginning for humanity, and it still is today. But Jesus provided us the perfect example of how to successfully overcome temptation. Remember, the devil tempted Jesus three times (see Matthew 4:1-11), and each time the Lord answered the temptation beginning with the words “It is written….”
That’s Jesus repelling temptation with what the apostle Paul called the “sword of the Spirit,” meaning the written Word of God. The Lord gave us the Bible to challenge us, to encourage us, and to help us battle temptation. It is our privilege to follow the example of a psalmist who wrote, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11).
Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me Your written Word, which helps keep me from sinning against You.
