The rock badgers are a feeble folk, Yet they make their homes in the crags; Proverbs 30:26
What, you may ask, are conies? The NIV translates this verse: “Hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags.” The Hyrax syriacus, also known as a rock badger, is found in the Sinai Desert and cliffs along the Dead Sea. It’s a small, shy, furry animal that resembles a guinea pig. It lives in rock crevices, safe from predators. Hyraxes feed in groups, watched over by sentries that sound an alarm when enemies approach.
They’re reminiscent of the Ewoks, short furry bipeds in the Star Wars movies, who lived on the forest moon of Endor. They, too, were a “feeble folk” who proved to be mighty.
All believers are “feeble” in some area of their lives—weak, incapable, and lacking power. You may be ordinary, with no special talents, yet do things that compensate for your weakness. Maybe you’re thrifty and good at saving, so despite a lack of good looks, strength, or other A-list abilities, you’re able to provide a secure financial future.
“Remember…that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead God chose things…that are powerless to shame those who are powerful” (1 Corinthians 1:26-27).
