And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored [one], the Lord [is] with you; blessed [are] you among women!" But when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Finding favor in God's eyes isn't about earning His approval. He cannot become obligated to anyone through their works. The Greek word translated as "favor" is charis. It can also be translated as grace. Strong's Concordance says it means "disposed to, inclined, to Favorable towards, leaning towards to share benefit."
God is always leaning toward people to make Himself known. This is why James and Peter both reference Proverbs 3:34: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble" (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5, emphasis added). God opposes pride because it causes a person to pull back just as God wants to come closer.
God is leaning toward you in Christ, wanting a deeper relationship. Take advantage of His unearned favor. Paul admonished, "'In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.' I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2, emphasis added) Don't miss a single day of His love.
Prayer: Father, Your favor is all I need for my new life in Christ. I want to grow in Your grace.
