"An astonishing and horrible thing Has been committed in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule by their [own] power; And My people love [to have it] so. But what will you do in the end? Jeremiah 5:30-31 NKJV

Fake news isn’t a new problem. The prophet Jeremiah often spoke against rival prophets who told lies to keep their influence in the kingdom. The sad truth is that people believe what they want to believe, even when their belief runs counter to the truth.

Why? Affirming things believed by your chosen group provides you with a sense of belonging. There’s safety in numbers, and group members often choose each other over truth.

If acceptance isn’t your main motivator, maybe it’s comfort. When truths require you to confront past actions in a new light or commit to doing things differently in the future, it’s easier to simply disregard the truth.

The book of Jeremiah sounds like the world today. False truths spread rapidly through social media. People listen to certain sources not to learn but to have their beliefs echoed back to them. They love thinking they are right, regardless of the truth.

Jeremiah 5:31 ends with this question from God: “But what will you do in the end?”

In the end, only God’s truth matters. Are you listening to it or to an echo chamber of your choice?

Prayer: God, teach me Your truths so I can recognize the world’s falsehoods.

Very true & I know we have all been there before. I was once blind to the whole truth. Saved but knowing not much about God & being okay in that comfort. I try to remember this when family choose to be so blind to it all. It’s almost as if their all walking around in darkness waiting for someone to turn the light on yet they don’t know they need the light turned on. I pray for All who walk in darkness
