Evil spirits from God

Loyal
Have you ever wondered why God would send an evil spirit on someone?

1 Sam 16:23; So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.
1 Sam 18:10; Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul's hand.

Jdg 9:23; Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

Now it seems God only does this to evil people.

Rev 9:2; He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit.
Rev 9:3; Then out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth, and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
Rev 9:4; They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
Rev 9:5; And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man.
Rev 9:6; And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.
Rev 9:7; The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men.
Rev 9:8; They had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions.
Rev 9:9; They had breastplates like breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to battle.
Rev 9:10; They have tails like scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men for five months.
Rev 9:11; They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon.

Who is this "angel of the abyss" that controls these locust/scorpions. It seems they only sting people "who do NOT have the seal of God" on their foreheads.

Greetings,
Perhaps being quite more specific in this post would be very beneficial.

God is NOT sending evil spirits on people in this N
T season.

Far to many Christians already give God credit for what satan did and does.

Rom 1:24; Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
Rom 1:25; For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26; For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
Rom 1:28; And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

Also Revelation 9 above, is in the NT.

Perhaps some give Satan credit for what God does?

Rom 11:25; For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;

2 Thes 2:11; And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Rom 11:8; just as it is written, "GOD GAVE THEM A SPIRIT OF STUPOR, EYES TO SEE NOT AND EARS TO HEAR NOT, DOWN TO THIS VERY DAY."

Come on Brother, this in no way says God sent evil spirits to any one.

It is talking about those who REJECTED HIM until the point God gave them over to their wicked desires.
There comes a point when God will let one go.

Also Revelation 9 above, is in the NT.
Brother you really think this proves your point?

In Revelation we can see where the lease of this earth with man runs out and God takes back FULL CONTROL of this place.
As I said in this season which is called GRACE and you bring up the season AFTER GRACE.

People harden their own hearts and eventually God will give them over to their hardened hearts.

He doesn't.

It reminds me of those some say ''God hardened their hearts''. God does not harden someone's heart. Likewise He does not send evil spirits on someone. The context is ''He stops knocking, softening and protecting''. We have not got evil spirits in us because He protects us. If His protection stops, then we would have them. Consider Job. God did not ''send an evil spirit to him''. He removed his protection from Job and allowed the devil to test him to the point of death but not to kill him

In the case of Saul, He stopped protection. Note how David's harp play made him ''well'' again. God could work through David as He had 'given up / was having a hard time' with Saul. The writer must have merely seen Saul well, then Saul sick. When he saw Saul sick, he said ''an evil spirit of the Lord is on him''.

This is an entirely separate scenario. These locusts are a plague. Plagues are sent to get people to repent. The angel of the abyss is not necessarily wicked / fallen. It could be he is just entrusted with a task. If he is a fallen angel, it still does not equate to ''God sends evil spirits on someone'.

Ok, how about this one?

Rom 11:8; just as it is written, "GOD GAVE THEM A SPIRIT OF STUPOR, EYES TO SEE NOT AND EARS TO HEAR NOT, DOWN TO THIS VERY DAY."

Also do you think God changed between the new testament and the old testament?

Heb 13:8; Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Mal 3:6; "For I, the LORD, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

Jas 1:17; Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Psa 55:19; God will hear and answer them—Even the one who sits enthroned from of old—Selah. With whom there is no change, And who do not fear God.

Admittedly this isn't God doing it, but Paul says...

1 Cor 5:5; I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

And while Jesus didn't send any evil spirits upon people, he did send some upon some pigs. ( Matt 8:31-32; Mark 5:12-13; Luke 8:32-33; )

Back to the OT and Saul for a moment,

1 Sam 16:14; Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.
1 Sam 16:15; Saul's servants then said to him, "Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrorizing you.
1 Sam 16:16; "Let our lord now command your servants who are before you. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well."
1 Sam 19:9; Now there was an evil spirit from the LORD on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, and David was playing the harp with his hand.

Every single verse above calls this "an evil spirit"... and every single above says "of the Lord" or "from God" or "from the Lord".

@KingJ mentioned verses like...
Deut 2:30; "But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass through his land; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to deliver him into your hand, as he is today.

Now maybe this isn't the same thing as an evil spirit, I am willing to concede that, and perhaps that could be another thread. However, 1 Sam 16:14-15 says the evil spirit was "terrorizing' Saul.

Maybe God was using the evil spirit to change Saul. I will even concede that. But in the end...

1 Chron 10:13; So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it,

Also do you think God changed between the new testament and the old testament?
Brother I am really surprised you are even putting this out here.

What Changed from old to new is How God Interacts or deals with man.

God does not deal with man outside of a covenant.

First, do you not think there was a covenant in the old testament?

Second, do you think all men (old testament or new) agree to enter into that covenant with God?

Brother I am really surprised you are even putting this out here.

Why should we only present half of the Bible? Why should we only talk about half of God?
Why do people want to suppress some scriptures as if they aren't there?

Should I put on my tippy toe boots for this one because you must have some angle here.

Why would you ask me this? :)
There are many in the OT and some still in effect today.

Second, do you think all men (old testament or new) agree to enter into that covenant with God?
Again I find this a strange question to ask.

Which covenant brother?

@B-A-C

When you quote me please keep what you qoute in context because when you don't it causes other people to chine in under false pretenses

@B-A-C you quoted the following
Brother I am really surprised you are even putting this out here.

Then @B-A-C you answer with this...
Why should we only present half of the Bible? Why should we only talk about half of God?
Why do people want to suppress some scriptures

@B-A-C My comment was ONLY too the following

Also do you think God changed between the new testament and the old testament?

This has nothing to do with what you replied with

Why do people want to suppress some scriptures

Thank You Brother

Read 1 Sam 16:14-15, it says ''the Spirit of the Lord left Saul''. As I have explained, it is a reading blunder to interpret it as ''God put an evil spirit in him''. The correct interpretation is 'God left him / removed his protection and thus there was an opportunity for being tormented by evil spirits'. This is the case with any of us. The devil is roaming like a lion looking for whom he can devour 1 Pet 5:8.

It's more like allowed rather than sent!
Allowed as in God has nothing to say about it.

Scripture teaches us that satan was defeated and stripped by Jesus.

Scripture teaches us that God has given us power and authority over the devil.

Scripture teaches us that satan roams around LOOKING for some one he may destroy or a legal right to do so.

God has done all He will do about the devil in this season of Grace.

God Will back us when we enable Him by using His Word. If we do nothing about the devil then nothing gets done about the devil.

Scripture teaches us To Give No Place To The Devil.

So God allows is better said we allow.

The word here is "sent", not allowed. Why do some people want to change the words in the Bible?

This is the same word used in Genesis 3:23; when God "sent" Adam out of the garden.

Greetings,
Again you are comparing how God dealt with man before the Cross and After. This can not be done outside of error.

You no doubtlessly have read or heard how this flood or that storm is judgement of God in recent days. That is simply false. Study the Covenants between God and man and one will discover the Covenant God made with Noah. Never again shall He do what?

Even a small flood or storms etc would violate what God Said.

The problems with pushing how God did things before the cross influences people to BELIEVE He is doing it now.

While this passage doesn't have anything to do with evil spirits. It does have to do with how God treats some people in the new testament.

Acts 5:1; But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,
Acts 5:2; and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife's full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles' feet.
Acts 5:3; But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?
Acts 5:4; "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."
Acts 5:5; And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.
Acts 5:6; The young men got up and covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
Acts 5:7; Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
Acts 5:8; And Peter responded to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?" And she said, "Yes, that was the price."
Acts 5:9; Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well."
Acts 5:10; And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Acts 5:11; And great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.

How does God deal with others in the new testament?

Matt 7:21; "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
Matt 7:22; "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
Matt 7:23; "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Matt 25:11; "Later the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.'
Matt 25:12; "But he answered, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'

Matt 25:30; "Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

There are more verses like this...

Matt 25:45; "Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
Matt 25:46; "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

I'm sure I could ind a few more. In fact the middle of Revelation talks about how God deals with those who don't repent.
