There seems to be a lot of confusion about what evangelism is today. It's funny, in the secular world they have a better idea.
There are iPhone and Surface evangelists who knows what evangelism really means. But some churches even call themselves
"Evangelical" churches but have no idea what that means.
All through the New testament we see evangelism.
The great commission is basically a call to evangelism.
Mark 16:15; And He said to them,"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Mark 16:16; "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Matt 9:37; Then He *said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Matt 9:38; "Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."
The fact is, no one ever got saved without hearing about Jesus. Very few people (other than Paul) ever had Jesus speak to them out of no where.
Rom 10:17; So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Faith in Jesus comes from hearing about Jesus, not the other way around.
Now just because they hear the word doesn't mean everyone will get saved.
Heb 4:6; Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,
Heb 4:7; He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS."
Some people harden their hearts even when God is trying to speak to them.
Still we are told most people won't even know about the Gospel unless someone tells them about it.
Rom 10:14; How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
It seems many people think that people just get saved. It just happens. Perhaps it does happen that way sometimes, but for the majority, they don't know about
Jesus unless someone tells them about Him.
Luke 9:1; And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases.
Luke 9:2; And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.
We don't all have to be missionaries in foreign countries, you can be a missionary right at home, in your workplace, with your friends and family.
Why are we afraid to tell others about Jesus?
Matt 10:33; "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
Matt 28:19; "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Matt 28:20; teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
