Eternal Rewards

[Tribulation]

You can obtain 5 crowns here on earth, and will receive them once you get to heaven. Not all will get 5... some will obtain less than 5.

Five is the most you can obtain:

1) Crown of Incorruption --- 1 Cor 9:25
2) Crown of Rejoicing --- 1 Thess 2:19
3) Crown of Life --- Rev 2:10
4) Crown of Glory --- 1 Peter 5:4
5) Crown of Righteousness --- 2 Tim 4:8

You also get a white garment, which is made of fine linen. This garment is made from your good deeds here on earth. The nicer you are here on earth. The nicer the garment is for you once you get to heaven.

A gold ring on your finger. And you get to eat from the Tree Of Life, and live forever.

Hmmm... interesting!

I believe the parable of the Lost Son has some real insight about this.

We all know there will be a feast in heaven "The Great Supper"

Mat 15:18 When the lost son returns he says, "Father I have sinned against heaven and before you"
Jesus is making a connection to the actual "Father" and us returning to Him after living a life of sin.
Mat 15:23 He says, "Kill the fatty calf"... which is a reference to "The Great Supper".
Mat 15:22 "Bring out the best robe and put it on him"

Which is the linen garment I already mentioned.

Mat 15:22 "Put a ring on his finger"

This is the ring I am speaking of. It's the wedding ring. For his bride!

why would Jesus urge us to overcome if there is nothing further we must do once we have accepted Him as Savior?

That's a very good question.
The answer is because The Lord gave us the Great Commission.

Which requires us to grow in our faith and understanding through the study of the Scriptures under the guidance of the one indwelling in us, The Holy Spirit.

Since we are now not of this world, the world will turn on us and we will be persecuted. Those who endure because they have a mature faith (not because their own strength) will receive rewards in heaven.

I would like to share one passage that is related to this discussion:

<sup class="versenum" id="en-NIV-29839">11</sup> Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
<sup class="versenum" id="en-NIV-29840">12</sup> if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
<sup class="versenum" id="en-NIV-29841">13</sup> if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.

That is in 2 Timothy chapter 2.
When I read that, it struck me with its clarity, that there are among Christians who would not reign with The Lord because their faith never grow to be mature enough to endure the world.
