"Blessed [is] she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord." Luke 1:45 NKJV
When a job doesn’t work out, the truck breaks down, or a relationship deteriorates, do you find it difficult to believe, as Mary did, that God will fulfill His promises?
During these times, it helps to read passages like today’s because they illuminate the unseen forces at work on earth. Forces like God’s angels and His miracles, or even forces like faith itself—the ability to believe in impossible outcomes.
Mary, Zechariah, and Elizabeth’s faiths were encouraged by Gabriel’s reminder, “For no word from God will ever fail” (Luke 1:37). Do you feel the deep, personal happiness that comes with believing like they did? Regardless of your immediate circumstances, God means it when He says His words will never fail you.
In response to God’s promises, Mary wrote the song in today’s reading (Luke 1:46-55). Se committed hours to expressing her thanks, because she experienced it so deeply. Maybe this is part of the reason God chose her to mother the Messiah—He appreciates those He knows will spend time showing their thankfulness.
Will you celebrate God’s faithfulness in significant ways, like Mary did? You could express your thankfulness by writing a song, fixing someone’s car, raking a neighbor’s leaves, or financing a church mission trip—anything that serves Him.
Prayer: Father, help me believe and respond to Your faithfulness, like Mary, in significant ways.
