"Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." Mark 10:15 NKJV

On this day in 1929, Wall Street suffered its infamous Black Thursday, Markets collapsed and the security of United States citizens collapsed along with them.

As banks closed and families lost jobs, the new poor began to look for more secure investments, not only financially but spiritually. Church attendance grew, evangelists attracted huge crowds, and Christian nonprofits increased in number and influence. Their trust and dependence on wealth evaporated, and believers began to redirect their security toward God.

It feels good to provide for yourself and your family, to put food on the table and fuel in the car, and pay off a home. But being able to provide security only through personal industry can yield a hundred dark Thursdays. Jesus reminded His followers only those who “receive the kingdom of God like a little child” find a home there. The trust and sense of wonder that characterize childhood should characterize your life.

If the bank closed and you lost your job today, would you be able to roll with it? Would you relax “like a little child” in the arms of a loving Father? This month, when you evaluate your securities, maybe you can extend that evaluation to childlike matters of the heart.

Prayer: Father, help me evaluate my spiritual portfolio and reinvest in the security that matters most.
