"There they dwelt with the king for his work -1 Chronicles 4: 23

The particular setting and time in relation to this statement are uncertain: we can therefore the more readily take the words out of their context, .......noting that 'they' who dwelt with the king were very ordinary people like ourselves - 'potters, and those who dwelt among the plants and hedges'.

Folks like you and I today going about the business of earning a living to provide for our families.

Dwelling with the King. The Lord invited his diciples to that first Lords supper, and they sat at his table. Just as today he invites you and I to His Table. He invites us to His dwelling, to share in the feast He has provided.

And when we arrive as His guests, we find that the Lords Table is the symbol of the fact that He wants us to dwell with Him for ever.

'Abide in me as I in you......Jn 15:4.

The counterpart of that is that He condecends to make His dwelling with us. "If any man open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him...and he with me. Rev.3:10

For His work. [/I] There is a purpose in all of this. There are those who think only in terms of joy, of sitting at His feet and hearing His word, without any thought of the activity which such result from dwelling in the Kings presence producers.

"There they dwell (in the daily exercise of their duties) with the King for His work. The Lords purpose in coming to dwell in our hearts is to enable us to do His work.

'Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.......and ye shall be witnesses...'

Conversely there can be effective service, .....but no power in that service, unless Christ dwells in our hearts by faith: only then can we know being "strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man" Eph:3:16
